There's some finish wear on the stock, barrel and reciever. Comes with a 26" barrel with a bead sight. Takes 3" shells. The bolt appears to be stainless. Is this a good buy? Thanks in advance!

Yep. The wear on the stock is simply a matter for a weekend refinishing job, Barrel and action can be reblued or ignored (my pref), bolt is hard chrome.

Two years ago it would be a good price, these days in SC, it's a great price.

I'd be very tempted to pay that for a reciever and stock.

Jump on it! :)

Around here (Southeastern Wisconsin), I have seen a number of 870 Wingmasters in used but excellent condition priced on average for $225. Most were 2 3/4 only and less commonly 3".

I bought an 870 Express last week in brand new condition with only one choke tube (modified) for $185, no sales tax and they threw in a used hard case......I thought that was an awesome deal. Finish is perfect and wood is in "new" condition!! Great deal at a pawn shop of all places!

Good deal. The Remington 870 is a sweet shotgun, real easy to maintain, reliable as a rock, and if you want to Skunk it out (read: Go tactical with it, ) you can do so.

They gave me the 870 for $125! :)
I put it in layaway last week. But when I came in today to pick it up, there's a sign that Glocks are $50 off, I joke if I can have a $45 off on my 870 too, the owner said yes. But the biggest surprise was that it actually come w/ a Hastings rifled barrel (marked Paradox on the other side), one of the best barrel I've heard. Needless to say I'm a happy camper! :)
Now I just have to invest on a synthetic stock, a scope and a scope mount, then she'll be ready for hunting next season!
Thanks again for all the responses!

That is primarily a slug barrel, make sure you pattern to see what you get with various shot sizes. I have heard (not a first hand account) that the rifling can spin the shot and cause huge holes in the pattern. Something to check for yourself. Other barrels can be had.

Thanks for the advice!
I shall do that when the weather gets warm.
How much are smooth barrels go for?

$125?!!

Don't bother buying any Lottery tickets for a while, you've used up your good luck ration for the year(G)...

Rifled barrels are good with sabot slugs only, yours will need bench work to determine which sabot it "Likes".

Lots of folks get cheap scopes for their shotguns and then spend much more on a Leopold that won't fall apart after 20 rounds. Shotgun scopes get slammed again and again, get the best and see it work for decades. And stay at low magnifications, 4X is the absolute maximum and I'd stay with a 2X or so.

Smoothbore barrels ar neither scarce nor expensive. Try copshops for old riot barrels in much used condition at cheap prices, the BB at your local range for other barrels, and the mail order places like Cabela's and Bass Pro carry new ones.

Synthetic stocks are OK, but this has a stock already. Try some shooting with it and see how it fits. Also, it's easy to mount sling studs in wood. You WILL want slug capability.

A 21" turkey barrel with a few Remchokes will outfit you for anything from Crisis Management (HD/CD) to Stress Management(Clays, Hunting).

For a total outlay of around $300,you've got all the bases covered. And being an 870, that puts the cost per use down around $0.0000001.,,,,

Dave,
I called them today and they do have a 26" smooth bore for $89, used. I know I can find one cheaper maybe at the shows. I'm kinda embarassed to ask for anymore discount, I know I already got a super deal on this one :D. Perhaps, I want a 20" one. Thanks again for the advice! If there's anymore keep it coming!

P.S.
I'm still buying Lotto, last time I check, it's 35 million jackpot! :D
I won't forget about you guys, promise!:p

What's the $89 barrel? With a choke tube setup it's a good deal, with a fixed choke it's still OK. Look for dings, dents, BULGES,rust and pits.

I see few bargains at gun shows these days. If that barrel is in good shape it might be the best thing around.

A 18-21" barrel is a nice thing to have. The Turkey Express barrel with more chokes may be the cost effective way to get versatile.
