TOKYO - A man carrying a knife burst into a public elementary school in western Japan on Monday and stabbed at least three adults, police said. Kyodo News reported that one of the victims died.
Police arrested a “younger man” for the attack, said Isoo Noda, spokesman for the Neyagawa City police, near Osaka. Kyodo News reported the attacker was a 17-year-old who graduated from the elementary school.
Noda said no students were hurt in the attack.
The attack triggered panic at the school. National broadcaster NHK showed aerial footage of students running frantically out of the school building and gathering in the playground.
A local education board spokesman, Yoshihige Nishikawa, said the injured were three teachers — two men and one woman. Two of them were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, he said.
Kyodo News reported that one of the victims — a man in his 50s — had died. Police could not immediately confirm that.
The stabbings happened in the faculty room, Nishikawa said.
School security has been a rising concern in Japan since a man with a history of mental illness killed eight children in a stashing rampage at an elementary school in Osaka in 2001.
The killer, Mamoru Takuma, was executed last September.
Here's to all the people that think that outlawing guns outlaws violence...

See - there ya go - thinkin' like a gun nut again - usin' logic and all that.
Look at the bright side. Why - if he'd have had a gun - especially one of them evil black rifles he could have mowed down 50 or 60 people in just a matter of seconds instead of just the 3 he stabbed.
Heck - ya just can't get better proof than that that gun control do work!
So now what we need is knife control. Yeah - that's the ticket more knife control. Then club control. Then hammer control and Oh YEAH!!!! That's the ticket - PEOPLE CONTROL!!!!! then hee hee - haw haw :what: - they're comin' to take me away - oh no!
muhahaha!!!!

I hate to say it but if they had a 10 day waiting period on knives this attack might have been avoided!

Two wounded, one dead with a knife vs only two wounded with an "AW" in the NY mall.
???
Oh, I know.... "More would have died had his weapon been legal in NYC."
Sounds like what we can expect to hear, right?

I'm impressed that it only took three years for the last guy mentioned to be executed.

I seem to remember reading that capital punishment in Japan is exceptionally rare. I believe they hang people there. But this guy was one of the first people they'd executed in quite awhile, if I recall correctly.

Singapore executes people pretty swiftly as well, for drugs, murder and sometimes firearms offences (yuck, no gun rights over there).

This would not have happened if all citizens were made by law to wear thickly padded boxing gloves at all times.

Somehow, I'm reminded of the Simpsons episode where the aliens take over the Earth.
"He's got a board with a nail in it. RUN!"
Sigh.

From what I understand, though, their law enforcement in other areas (from rape all the way down to spitting on the sidewalk) is exceptionally efficient.
They're safe from themselves, at least... :(
Waitaminute--what sorts of firearms offenses? That could go either way... :scrutiny:

That's the ticket - PEOPLE CONTROL!!!!!
Bingo! You've got it! That is the purpose of the gun-grabbers, the "PETA"-people, the "environment" whackos and all the others thinking of themselves as being the "crown of the creation". :barf:

As was stated before the Japanese prefer hanging. Although for a guy that killed 8 kids I would be all for bringing back beheading.
The japanese have also taken steps to arm their teachers. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=69787
Not as good as a pistol, but I suppose it is a start and much better then we do here in the USA.
