Gold Cup in .38 Special Arrives!

I can't wait to get a range report on this pistol. I'm no expert, but I think this the tightest 1911 I've seen. There is no barrel movement, and the bushing is so tight that I need to buy a wrench tomorrow to disassemble it. Then, I'll have to start loading for it to see what it shoots best.
Talk about a beautiful pistol. I don't know if they make them like this anymore, anywhere.

I think it's straight blowback. Always wanted one of the 38 GCs. Awesome piece! Enjoy!

Your right Adventurer. They sure don't make them like that anymore. You are a lucky dog to have such a fine weapon.
Its refreshing to see someone post something about the acquisition of an older Classic gun rather than the usual post of "I just ran out and bought the latest and greatest piece of plastic and sheet metal".
When you shoot this beauty let us know how it did and what loads you used.
Also I just made up some loads for a friend of mine who just bought an older Smith & Wesson automatic in .38 special. I believe it was called the Model 52. We shot 148 grain wadcutters seated upside down so they would fit in the magazine and put in if I remember correctly about 2.2 grains of bullseye. It was a real tack driver. Trigger pull was light as a fether and broke like glass. Workmanship was outstanding. Quality of materiels also outstanding.
Well the average arm chair commado will say "Why in the world would you want to spend a lot of money on a gun that only shoots low power wad cutters and only is good for punching a hole in paper". To which I would respond. "Yes it does puch a hole in paper, it punches only one hole because all the shots went through that one and only hole", HOW WELL DOES YOUR GUN SHOOT AS COMPARED TO THIS ONE? That ususally ends the converstation with the other fellow not even wanting me to look at his targets.
I would like someday to find a Smith or a nice Colt like the one you have in .38 special.

The S&W 38 Master (Mod 52) is also a precision paper punch. It has a linked bbl like a 45 ACP Gold Cup but the 38 Special Colt GC is straight blowback. That's why the bbl don't seem to move.

I also have a Colt Gold Cup in .38 caliber, but it is in .38 Super. In the late 1980's Colt made a special run of Gold Cups called the "Gold Cup Elite" models, in .45, 9mm and .38 Super calibers. These are 2-toned guns, with blue slide and stainless frames. They came with uncheckered grips having a Colt medallion on them. Other than that they are standard Gold Cups.
The one I have is unfired - I bought it from a collector who bought it new. He had 3 of them, one in each caliber, and he was selling all of them. I just bought the .38 Super. I am keeping it unfired so it doesn't depreciate. I have other Gold Cups in .45 and 10mm that I use for shooting purposes.

Here's a pic, I'm sorry about the quality but you can only upload a photo of a given size, and the high quality digicam pics are too large.
The pistol is in much better condition than the box! I got the bushing wrench, without it I never could have disassembled it. I'll give it a good cleaning and an outing this week with any luck.
