(Emphasis Mine)

David Bookstaber's prescription for safe streets ("The state's firearms law hampers self-defense," Jan. 10) was as ridiculous as it was uninformed.

In the first place, he made little sense taking our gun laws to task for supposedly hampering self-defense, while referring to the shooting of a rapist by the potential victim's husband. The fact that the husband will not face prosecution disproves Bookstaber's case.

Bookstaber pointed to Philadelphia as a shining light because folks there can carry concealed handguns, thereby, he claims, discouraging violent crime. How did he miss the rash of shootings of children besetting Philly of late? The fact is that Philly is one of America's most vibrant gun black markets, fueled in part by dishonest concealed-carry permit holders who buy guns in bulk and sell them to traffickers.

Pennsylvania's lax gun laws have enabled the growth of the illegal gun distribution system in Philly, which reaches across the Ben Franklin Bridge to Camden, helping lead to its designation as "America's Most Dangerous City."

The "theory" behind the whinings of pro-gunners is that an armed society is a polite and safer society. If that were true, the United States would be the safest from violent crime and gun violence. Instead, it has, along with the highest rate of gun ownership among developed countries, a rate of gun violence many times higher than its fellows.

No, New Jerseyans prefer our gun laws. After all, it is no coincidence that our state's per-capita rate of gun violence is among the lowest in the country, much lower than the "beacon" of Pennsylvania.

Does anyone know where I can find information on the number of revoked concealed-carry permits in Pennsylvania. I'd love to find that number to provide in a letter to show how badly this letter-writer lied.

Imagine that, more spouting off while providing not a shred of evidence or research to back up one's claim. Let's try this one:

Individuals who support gun-control legislation have fueled terrorist attacks upon the United States and it's forces, as well as added to resentment of the US abroad, by thier sickenengly-low moral standards. These people sodomize children and dogs, and contribute to the illegal trafficking of slave labor

My claim is just as supported has his. (That means, neither statement has any wieght whatsoever)

Gee...I didn't know my CCW = 01 FFL....Woopee...I can go buy 400 AK-47s now right? Anybody else want one? My god...the stupidity should be self-evident. If that truly is happening, it is already Illegal, we don't need more laws, just better enforcement. How can the left be soo wrong so much of the time?

You guys, this is Ceasefire New Jersey. Their press releases are best left ignored. I'd love to see them explain why the crime rate in camden is so different from philly, when theoretically the two should be the same if he thinks that "lax gun laws" really do contribute to crime there.

Incidentally, it's the oldest trick in the book to blame the state with less gun control and a lower crime rate for the crime rate in your state. NJ has what is quite possibly the highest level of gun control in the nation, except for possibly California and Washington DC. I can personally vouch for the fact that it has not done anything about the crime rate whatsoever; Camden, Paterson, Newark, Jersey City et al are among the most dangerous places in the United States.

I'd really like to see the stats to back that claim up.

Those statistics are, surprisingly, correct.
STATE MURDERS VIOLENT CRIME
PA 5.3 398
NJ 4.7 365
Numbers are per 100,000.

As far as how they rate
PA's murder rate is higher than: MA, NY, NJ
PA's murder rate is lower than: CA, MD, DC (44.2!!!)

Forgive me if I don't get too upset at an insult coming from an obvious moron.

If the writer would be so kind as to provide the names of just a few of these mythical CCW holders who buy guns just to resell on the black market, I'll volunteer to drive to Philadelphia to test how readily available black market guns are.

As to this:
Those statistics are, surprisingly, correct.
I don't call 4.7 "much" lower than 5.3. It is lower, but not by that much. Statistically, it is 11% lower. That isn't a whole lot compared, for example, to DC. And the statistic is just for "murder." It does not speciy what weapon was used in all the murders.

While I'm not statistician I'd venture to say the reason they come out that way is because NJ is the most populous state in the union. We have many bad areas in the state, but also many upscale areas with low crime. PA on the other hand has Philly and Pittsburgh and the rest is very rural so it throws the balance off. That's my .02 anyway.

Bryan Miller has no decency, and will squirm, wriggle and outright lie in any way he can to further his bigotted cause.

The leftist extremists are always glad to do anything to besmirch the honor of law-abiding American citizens who choose to exercise our Second Amendment civil rights.
