Nickel M57

I was fiddling around on the gun for sale sites this morning and ran across a six-inch, nickeled Smith M57.
Now I have a bad .41 Magnum jones and no cash.
At times life is both cruel and unusual.
That M57 sure is a nice-looking revolver. It would look fine next to my nickel M58.

I had a nickelled 4" M57 which was a great revolver. Then I had a brainfart and sold it.
I'll be the little guy with the pitchfork sitting on your shoulder and telling you "Buy it-don't let it get away!!"
However, make sure you do your revolver quality control checks on it before you lay down the green.
Let us know how it goes.

Don't feel too bad. I really lusted after a model 57, blue, six inch barrel. I figured this would be a great revolver and since I had a Ruger Super Redhawk for hot-rod loads, a 41 Magnum would be nice when I wanted something a little lighter in heft, but still plenty of power. I searched high and low. Gun shops and gun shows. No model 57's of any sort. Most people I talked to had not seen any in a long time. I ended up with a nickle plated model 29-3 with a six inch barrel. I still have not seen a model 57 in my area of the world! Oh well, the model 29 is sweet and there are more ammo and reloading options for the 44 Magnum.

My 657 is one of my favorites...
I wish I had a 58, but I can't buy one right now, I gotta pick up my razorback tuesday. (There goes my gun budget for 6 months.)

On another site I saw a M657 with an eight and three eighths inch barrel. That could make me forget all about the nickel M57, at least for a while.
I know, I know, get BOTH!

I always have had a soft spot in my heart for this
weapon and cartridge; as I owned a 4" S&W model
57 in factory presentation case, before I even had
a thought about owning any .357 magnum.
And as a result, the .41 Magnum was the very first
cartridge I handloaded for; way back yonder in the
winter of 1973. Fellow THR member Capbuster
assisted me step-by-step in my novice stages of
handloading; great credit is hereby given to him
for such an enjoyable hobby!
Congrat's on the find and purchase of your new
S&W model 57; as I'm sure you will enjoy it for
many year's to come.
Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member
