00 Buckshot Patterning Anyone?

Just got back from the range. I took two different 00 loads with me. Estate Cartridge S.W.A.T Reduced Recoil and Remington #SP12 both in 2 3/4", 9 pellet design. I shot five rounds of each at different targets at 7, 15, and 25 yards with my Winchester 1300 Defender. I brought the silhouettes home and figured I would photograph them and post my results.

Not only did the Estates hold tighter groups, they have a significantly reduced recoil for faster follow-ups and less worry about over-penetration. The cost was roughly the same. Retail I paid $6.49 for 10 SWAT cartridges and $2.99 for 5 of the Remingtons. They are both cheaper online.

The red dot is POA. The light circle outlines the group.

If you have the time to post them I, for one, would like to take a peek.

I'm interested. I always like to see how other 1300s pattern with loads I haven't yet tried to compare when I try them in my 1300s.

Always interested in patterning. If you take the time, we'll check it out for sure.

GT, it would be appreciated. I don't have a digital cam. When I did a bunch of shooting for a thread on TFL, I think a picture would have really helped.

Please do. I'm sure lots of folks would like to see how they do. Of course, each shotgun has it's own optimum load, so we ALL have to test our ammo in our shotguns to know what works best.

Strange you would post this( or I see this on 3/8), as I intended to check pattern with my 1300 Defender Sun. 3/9. So, yes, I'd be interested. I've never checked my gun with anything...just shot it for fun.

I know that every gun will pattern a little differently that every other and will pattern differently with different loads. Using a Rem 870 Marine Magnum and Federal's 00 Buck Tactical Load 2 3/4" rounds, I was able to attain somewhat tighter patterns. At 5 yards, the pattern was fist-sized, ~3" diameter. At 10 yards, the pattern had a roughly 6" diameter circle. At 15 yards, the pattern was approximately 9" across at its greatest diameters, but more square than circular in pattern. The pattern grows by one inch for each five feet of distance.

GT,

Where did you pick up the Estate Buckshot? I'd like to pattern that brand of 00 (as well as their 8 pellet) and compare it with the Brenneke's , Federal's Tactical & Premium, Winchester's Low Recoil Ranger & Super-X, Remington's Express and Hornady's TAP, but have found that the usual mail-order sources are out of it. Thanks for any info.

I got it from a local shop but http://CheaperThanDirt.com carries it. Tried to find it for you but thier site's down again.

Here's Estate's website: http://www.estatecartridge.com/html/hunting.htm

GT,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, Cheaper Than Dirt only carries the Estate High Velocity (of which I ordered five boxes) and 8 Ball (out of stock) Buckshot. Natchez Shooter's Supply also has nothing on hand. I'll call Estate in the morning regarding other possible retail outlets.

That's strange. CTD had it listed a week or so ago. Maybe they discontinued it. Let me know if you find a good price on it elswhere. $6.49/box is too rich for my blood.
