Please rate this pistol in terms of reliability and ease of field stripping. My left hand is partially numb and useless in terms of strength. I will be moving from Illinois to Texas shortly and will need a pistol for concealed carry. Thanks,

I like the XD line. They seem well made, easy to shoot well, & durable. I have been renting one more & more lately. Field stripping as I understand it is similar to that of the SIG pistols.

I am probably going to make it my wife's IDPA gun. She likes the Glock, but she seems to like this more. A few more trips to the range should finalize this decision...

the xd 9 is a dream to shoot and strip. It is very comfortable in the hand and accurate. It remone the slide, all the is required is remove mag, pull slide back and hold back with side release, then turn lever in front counterclockwise and wam-o squeeze trigger in pull slide off. Everything in one unit. very simple and easy to clean. I am glad I bought it. Good price to.

You will love this pistol. I have an XD-40 and hundreds of rounds through it with no problem. It eats it all from brass-cased Remington to steel-cased Wolf. This weapon is TUFF! The .40 is accurate and I hear tell the 9 is even more so. Guns & Ammo did a abuse test here a while back that included running over it with a truck and it did fine. There are some XD test guns with tens of thousands of rounds through them, so I've heard. It's a snap to field strip and clean. It comes with two mags and a hard case that you can lock with a padlock. This weapon is one of the best buys on the pistol market and stands to give Glock a run for their money.

"...all the is required is remove mag, pull slide back and hold back with side release, then turn lever in front counterclockwise..."
The takedown lever rotates upward clockwise.
Like my SIGs, I've always found it much easier to insert an empty mag into the gun and let it do the work of locking the slide back when I retract it instead if trying to fiddle with the flat slidestop with no mag.
I like it over Glock.

I have some problems with the XD-9. One, it is new to the market in regards to a Glock. Second, it is just a semi-Glock with a 1911 style safety, which hinders the comfort level. Third, the bore axis seems very high compared to a Glock 17 or a Steyr M9. Fourth, ugly as hell and somewhat akward. I hate it when people claim that the XD-9 is the Glock killer. Wait to say such things after it has been on the market for 15 years. Go with the original, go with the first, not the second. You always get what you payed for.

Although externally looking similar to the Glock, the XD is quite different in feel and function. The only similarities I can see between it and the Glock is the trigger safety and the internal striker. Whereas the Glock is semi-cocked, the XD is fully cocked. this gives the trigger a single action feel to it (which I prefer over the Glock's). Barrel lock-up is more like SIG P22X than the Glock. Ambi mag release like a Walther P88. Less blocky grip, better shaped backstrap.

I tried three nines (CZ-75, BHP, and Ruger P-94) and each one just didn't do it for me. Fat grips, non drop free mags, cases bouncing off my head and disappointing accuracy were real annoying. I had given up thinking I'm just not going to find a 9mm I like.
One day, two months ago, I noticed the new stainless slide XD-9, picked it up and could not believe how perfect it felt! It was like my hands were the model for the design. I bought it and am just delighted with the way it shoots. Soft recoil, accurate, just great.
Its a real "clean" shooter, the outside doesn't get dirty. And like the above post said, the slide just slides right off the frame. Not much cleaning needed on the inside either.
A five star recommendation for the XD-9 from a guy that is almost hopelessly particular.
