I saw this on the AP wire, again, this morning at work. Interesting. I wonder if it was intended to be a suicide rampage and he just forgot to save one for himself?

AP-NY--Mall Shooting

Police say Mall shooting suspect left notes in car and house

KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Police say the 25-year-old accused of firing about 60 rounds at a crowded mall earlier this week left notes in his car and house that were intended to be read after the shooting.
Robert Bonelli is accused of spraying assault weapon fire through the Hudson Valley Mall on Sunday afternoon, injuring two people before surrendering. Prosecutors say Bonelli was fascinated by the fatal Columbine school shootings and kept memorabilia about the 1999 killings.
Ulster Police Chief Paul Watzka would not divulge the contents of the notes Bonelli left.
Watzka says Bonelli bought the ammunition he used in the shootings about an hour before using it at a Wal-Mart store next to the mall.
The chief says the semi-automatic rifle used in the shooting was not altered to fire automatically and was legally purchased at a gun show in Ulster County in October.
The case against Bonelli will go to a grand jury within the next few weeks and a decision is expected within 45 days. He is currently in custody at the Ulster County Jail.

I think he expected to go down in a blaze of glory (suicide by cop). I hope he takes the next 70 years to sit in a very small, locked room to reconsider his foolishness.

I wish the police had shown up while he was still shooting and aided him in his plan

I predict a waitng period for ammo sales :D

Doesn't New Dork have their own assault weapon ban?

Obwian don't even joke about that! Unfortunately I could see that as something New York would do.

Yes, we have an AWB. But it is just like the old federal AWB so there is a grandfather clause and it has to have the right number of evil features.

Naw, he won't be getting 75 years in prison...maybe 10 years tops since he really needed some firearms instructions (thankfully).

60 shots and wasnt it only 2 hits one in a persons hand and the other in a leg? just think if the idiot took aimed shots it could of been ugly. the remarkable part was that it was a hesse and he got through 2 mags and it didnt break. :neener:

Ahem ....altered a semi auto to fire full auto, that's 30 years and $30,000, all Federal, discounting any other charges. The Feds are good at patiently waiting for inmates to finish state time, then pick them up right when they get released....breaks thier widdle hearts, it does....

Doesn't look like the gun was altered.

Have you guys been following the new AWB bills in your Legislature?? See this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=126122 There is text of both the House and Senate bills and links to them on the NY Assembly website.

Hopefully these will die in committee but if they go forward and get signed into law, it could be the beginning of a whole raft of similar bills across the country.

Odd. That's a very strange penal code. I would have expected him to be accused of attempted homocide. Wierd.

Odd. That's a very strange penal code. I would have expected him to be accused of attempted homocide. Wierd.Yes, but attempted homicide is not as sensationalistic as "spraying assault weapons fire." You see, this way they target the real villain, i.e., the weapon. The man was just the weapon's dupe, you see.

Thanks a LOT, jackhole. :banghead: He may not have killed anyone but those two facts could be almost as strong for the propagandists.

Well given how poorly he did he would have been better off buying a bolt action 700 at wal-mart and aimed his shots.

"Well given how poorly he did he would have been better off buying a bolt action 700 at wal-mart and aimed his shots."

If he had used a bolt action 700, instead of the media reporting "man with automatic assault rifle" they would have reported "man with high power sniper rifle capable of killing elephants at 1000 yards..."

Futher proof that it is the shooter and not the firearm. I wonder how the news pukes would have covered it if a legal CCW put a stop to the nutbars demonstration? That would drive them nuts. A legal gun being used to save lives!

Every once in a while in soCal we have individuals who can't pull the trigger on themselves, but they shoot up people or places or both to try to get the LEOs to help them along so that they can commit "suicide by cop...". That's a term the newsies made up.

Last I heard, he was being charged with assault.

Not Attempted Murder.

Makes me want to vomit.

It's possible the guy was actually a decent shot, and didn't intend to hit anyone. Were the two hits direct, or ricochets?

If he was trying "suicide by cop" why didn't the cops oblige him? Did he run out of ammo? Bad ammo management? Very slow cops?

If "assault" is the charge, I'd guess it's because the DA can't charge him with more.

I'd bet he comes up with a "mental" defense.

If you live in NY, I would stock up on cheap Walmart ammo, and enjoy the gun shows there in the next year or so. The statists will take care of both of those soon enough. :(

Who cares where the guy bought the ammo? Do we close down the gas station that sold the guy who got drunk and then drove?

Oh, sorry - I am speaking rationally. I sincerely hope no liberals get offended. If they do, rest assured it's not their fault.

Langenator

A more direct analogy would be closing down the bar where said drunk got soused. And bars have been sued, and successfully at that.

DRZinn

Even with no more ammo left, all suicide by cop would take is to aim at them. So it couldn't have been that. Who knows?

How about a total dumb a$$ with twisted delusions of grandeur?

oops, that might mean he's got grounds for an insanity plea.

Probably it all stems from when his mother used to urinate on his corn flakes.

The poor poor guy. Let's put him in a hospital for a few months to cure him and then let him go...

That works, right?
