Toaday at the Winston NC gun show. In perfect condition for $225. Haven't seen blueing like that since some of the old Smiths and Colts. Remains to be seen how well it shoots. Model number might be 669...don't know much about Taurus revolvers.

ulflyer,
I tend to like the Taurus revolvers...Triggers need some work compared to the Smith's but are a good value...I used one for several years as a "car gun" and it gave good performance..

BTW...when is the next Lexington Gunshow??

Dave, not sure on Lexington....am thinking its sometime soon but I don't have anything marked on my calendar. Since I live nearby, I usually see it on local billboards and will post it here. There is one at Charlotte Metroliner 26-27 Feb.

Ever been to the Lex show? Its pretty small and so crowded you have to elbow your way through. They get a good turn-out though and I often go just because its the "only show in town".

Yea I been to the Lex show many times...Was gonna do a table there this year, but stuff happend..

Yea your right about them being packed...You would think they would put some A/C in the building and do shows year round..

That's about what I paid for mine new, about 15 years ago.

Model number might be 669.

Look behind the crane -- the Taurus model number will be there.

I have a 669. 6" with the 8-port compensator on it. Beautiful blue, very nice single action, pretty good double. Very accurate, and even though the comp is hard to clean, it sure makes shooting strong magnum loads a joy! Muzzle hardly rises up!

It's always fun to compare a load in it, my Desert Eagle, and my SP101. :D

Congrats, I'm a fan of Taurus revolvers too. The new ones triggers are actually comparable to some new Smith's I've seen lately.

Congrats. The one I rented was a nice gun.

I have a Tracker 627 on the way. Only two more days.

My most recent Taurus revolvers have all come with exceptional single action triggers, with DA pulls that were a bit heavy. My 85TI actually has a better single action pull than my S&W 19-3 (the 19 beats the crap out of my 85 with regard to DA pull).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Taurus revolver. In fact, I was all set to get one of their big bore snubbies when they were discontinued and I stopped seeing them at shows. :cuss:

Taurus every blued taurus I've has had a very good finish.

Gotta add my 2c too. My M66 was bought new about three years ago - and out the box it was sweet as any Smith. I was surprised in fact. At a PA THR shoot October 2003 mtnbkr I think it was tried it and was favorably surprised too. Even the sights are pretty reasonable.

The bluing is remarkable considering it is a ''budget gun'' cost-wise ... and it lives in the house as wife's house gun - she shoots it with .38 +P ammo incredibly well - part of that is because it just feels right!

P95, there's my name right there in picture. That's what I carry in 4".

ulflyer, my 66 was right out of the box, and I experienced a siezed wheel at 300 +/- rounds. I fixed that on my own with a total immersion of the wheel in nitro solvent (assistance from THR members), but now there's this degradation of the bluing at muzzle. I don't know if this is just an issue with Taurus products or if it's common with all firearms.

P95Carry -- what grips do you have on that Taurus?

Mine has a 4 digit serial nr...94**...and I doubt its very old. Forgot to ask the guy I got it from. Any way of telling?

And I'd also like to know where the rubber grips come from.

Yeah, Taurus has a service on their website where you can look this up. I think they ask you the model number and serial number.

Poke around at www.taurususa.com for more info.

Lee - the grips .... I'll have to check and confirm but IIRC (without going into house and ''digging'') they are Butler Creek ... I very kind member here sent me a spare set he had soon after I had it - they are just a tad better re palm swell - fit nicely.

I'll try and remember to check later on tho - out soon to see gandchild and family.

Definitely Butler Creek. Very good grips. I have them on a few of my guns. I find current Taurus rubber (not the one with the "memory grooves" or whatever they call it) to be excellent. Last 2 Taurus revolvers I've purchased, I've just left the grips alone.

Southpaw...the Taurus lookup didn't have mine listed but gave a customer Nr. to call. Mine has wood grips and none of the key locks that new ones have.

Dave: Gun Show in Lexington, N.C. is 5-6 March. Saw a sign while out riding today.

If you're looking for a big bore snubby Taurus CDNN still has a few. 2" ported and unported compact 5 shots in .45 ACP and 45 Colt. Didn't see any of the 44 spl guns in there but KY imports had the Ti model for $319.99 last I checked.

The 669 I sold Kamicosmos is a very sweet gun. The Taurus 455 Ti I got with the money is a little sqirly being so light. It's fun learning how to control it and finding a handload it likes though. So I'm enjoying it dispite the currently mediorcre groups.

It has the Ribber grips, I might try the Butler Creeks since Houge isn't making a Monogrip or Bantum for it.

What's this talk about the big bore Taurus snubs no longer being available? I haven't heard about this. Are they discontinued or just temporarily unavailable for some reason?

The 450 (2" .45LC), 445 (2" .44SPL) and 455 (the 2" Tracker in .45ACP) all still show on the website.

If for some reason the website is outdated and these are discontinued I need to know. I'll need to push forward my purchase of one (I'm not sure which of the 3 I'd go with, probably the 450 or 455).

As for the original poster, you bought yourself a great revolver. Both the older 669 and the 66 are top notch revolvers. These days, with quality slowly but surely starting to approach S&W and prices staying fairly reasonable, Taurus revolvers are quite the bargain.

The 450 (2" .45LC), 445 (2" .44SPL) and 455 (the 2" Tracker in .45ACP) all still show on the website.

They sure are, but, if you look down on the sidebar there's a line at the bottom that say production status. Each of these say no longer in production (don't know about the 450, but I know the 445 & 455 have it, they're gone). But gone for how long is in question. It may very well be that these guns are simply experiencing a hiatus in production, but until the Taurus site says otherwise, I'm going to assume no longer in production means discontinued.

Is the Taurus 66 the same size and shape of the S&W 66?

I was thinking of a Tracker in 357 but I think a slightly larger grip would be nice.
