I have a beautiful blued all-Remington 1917 Enfield serial number 20653X barrel date 2-18 with the letters spelling "SCRAP" individually punched into the receiver below the serial number and "DRILL GUN" faintly visible on the right side of the buttstock. My dealer first tried to tell me that SCRAP was the name of the army company, but after I noted DRILL GUN he offered to fire it with a tire and a string. However, I think it is too beautiful to fire (and possibly risk damaging the gun also). Is anyone familiar with these markings? Thanks!
