Man Shot And Killed By Good Samaritan
Saturday January 25, 2003 6:13pm Posted By: Kevin King
Tulsa - It was another violent week on the
streets of Tulsa Saturday as a naked man was shot and killed after a bizarre argument downtown.
Just after eleven o'clock Saturday morning, a good samaritan responded to a woman's cries for help near the Brady Theater.
When he arrived, a man she was fighting with struck both victims with his car. Police say that's when shots rang out.
"After being struck by the car, the good samaritan, who was armed at that time...it appeared the suspect in the car was trying to back over him. At some point, he fired shots into the back of the car, hitting the suspect, who is now deceased," said Sergeant Eric Dalgleish.
We're told the man was about 25 years old, but his identity has not yet been released. As for the good samaritan, police say the shooting appears to be justified.

Man Shot And Killed By Good Samaritan Tulsa
- A man who shot and killed a suspect who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in downtown Tulsa will not face homicide charges. Scott Denton was called a good Samaritan for intervening in the incident, which occurred on January 25th. Denton says he heard a woman screaming in a parked car.
The woman was able to escape the vehicle, but the suspect, Arville Lee Jordan, struck Denton with the car and was attempting to back over him when Denton fired the fatal shots.
Doug Drummond, Assistant District Attorney, says Denton had reason to believe he could have suffered great bodily harm. Drummond says Denton could still face a misdemeanor charge if it is found that he did not have a permit to carry the handgun.

I would think that that would make him a "great" samaritan!!!;)

Drummond says Denton could still face a misdemeanor charge if it is found that he did not have a permit to carry the handgun.
Well now, we can't have the citizenry armed, can we?
There is only one reason that he would consider such a charge...to throw a bone to the anti-self-defense wackos. Seems to me that ADA Drummond knows the answer to the question already...or should.
He ought to be ashamed of himself. If he insists on prosecuting this hero, he should be summarily fired, either by his DA or by the voters.

To say the least! There's no justification for hounding law-abding citizens who risk their lives to defend themselves and others against predatory criminals.

Reminds me of that great Dirty Harry dialogue:
Harry Callahan: "Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy."
The Mayor: "Intent? How did you establish that?"
Harry Callahan: "When a man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a h*rd-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross."

I couldn't help but notice that there was a defamatory antigun headline here.
"Man Shot and Killed by..." just isn't accurate and makes it sound like Good Sam is out shooting people for fun. It should have read "Naked Rapist Killed by..."
The lead sentence of the article should have been "An armed citizen saved a woman from rape on the streets of Tulsa Saturday as her naked assailant was shot and killed."
Even when the news is good the Antis try to twist it to be bad.

Instant justice! How can anybody not be pro-CCW with crimes like these being stopped? Oh well. One more scum bag out of the genetics pool. :D

Meek, are you kidding? :scrutiny: That was about the most pro-gun headline I've ever seen! Notice that the shooter was a "Good Samaritan" ... not a vigilante, not a passerby, not even just a stranger.
I think they would have worked "Naked Rapist," (or at least "naked") into the headline if there were any way to manage it space-wise. Sex sells, you know?
Writing a good headline is hard work.

I can't post a link, but it seems a few days ago the Tulsa paper reported the guy did have a permit and there would be no charges. And it was .40 caliber. That's about all I remember.

With respect, I agree with MeekandMild. Perhaps it's just me, but when I read the headline, I first assumed the good Samaritan had shot an innocent person, not the perp.
Glad the good folks won again, and more innocent lives were saved.

I too read the good samaritan headline as negative at first, but perhaps that is because we're all used to negative spins, so we automatically interpret headlines most negatively.
