Range Report for SAR 1

Today was the second time I have taken out my SAR. FIrst trip was mostly familerization and only 30 rounds. Today I fired 200 rounds and man do I like this gun. At fifty yards I was shooting a little high but by the last target I had 36 of 40 rounds in the black. For me that is excellent shooting and I was impressed.

Mine is dead on right out of the box. You can't beat the SAR1 for the price. By the way, you can get extra mags at a good price from AIM Surplus.

Glad to hear you are liking it. Congratulations on a good SAR. You know how to adjust the sights, right?

Well, you don't adjust them by whacking them with a 30 round mag. It drifts the sight fine, but it renders the mag less than 100% reliable.
I...read that somewhere...

B-Square has the best AK sight tool out there. Costs about $20, but its money well spent. It can be left on the gun while zeroing, but will change point of impact vertically, at least mine did. Once off, it was fine. The Chinese tools will work, but if the sight barrel is real tight, they can bend. I used to use the closed end of a box wrench on mine for leverage. Dont beat on it with the mag, you might hurt yourself. I doubt you'd really hurt the mag though, they are tougher than Superman! :D

You really took the mag part of my post serious? Jeez. That was a little sarcasam there. :) Anyone who would beat on a rifle with a mag to adjust a sight needs some help. The AK mags are probably one of the most well made mags out there though, not like the trashy AR mags.

I wish I could say the same for my SA-M7. The rear sight is way out of line on it, and the gun is brand new. I took the sight off, and found that the two little prongs on the sight are not machined squarely with one another, causing the sight to set off far to the left. I did get the gun zeroed, but I also paid $300 more to get a "better, higher quality" AK than an SAR-1.
It makes me sick every time that I look at it.
I will call Arsenal tomorrow and give them a chance to make it right though before I badmouth them too much. All I need is for them to send me a new sight, and I can install it.
I don't think that is too much to ask, considering that it can't even be blamed on rough handling or a bumpy ride in the UPS truck. Out of square is out of square, and there is no way to pass it off on anyone else.

My SAR was dead on right out of the box two but my buddy has one along with the sight adjustment tool so no problem there.
