I read an article a while back about building a lightweight long range Model 700 and they used a steel action instead of a titanium one. The reason given IIRC was cost vs weight savings. So I checked out the weights of the Model 700 Titaniums and I see the SAUM versions (with a 2" longer barrel) weigh a pound more than the standard chamberings, even the long actions.
Why are the short magnum actions so much heavier than standard chamberings?
What are the weight savings from the Titanium vs carbon steel actions, both standard and short mag?
