Im needing a good deer rifle most likely a 700rem or a 70win has anyone had luck or badluck from buying used like from a pawnshop? I dont want to shell out a lot of cash.

I've only bought one gun from a pawn shop but probably over half of my guns were bought used. Semi autos are a bit more difficult to size up but I've always had good luck. On a bolt gun, if the bore looks good, there's no dings in the crown (muzzle) the safety works and the cosmetics are up to your standards, I'd buy it.

I love older guns that are well used but not abused.

I agree with cratz2. Most used bolt action hunting rifles that do not show obvious signs of abuse are a good buy.

Yeah, I'm in accord with cratz2.

Just remember that a good used hunting rifle in a hockshop cost the guy a bunch less than he's asking, so really bear down hard in your bargaining over price.

First get a handle on "good deals" on new guns from such as Shotgun News. It doesn't hurt to browse through a copy of Fjestad's "Blue Book" to get some feel for grading, and the value of 80% rifles as compared to NIB. This gives you a feel for what the market's really like.

After you've done this sort of homework, then you're ready to squabble with the hockshops and gunshow guys...
