I went to the range and shot my old mauser, this (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=116525) mauser.
I noticed when I loaded it up to 5 rounds it did not want to feed untill I was down to 2 or 3 rounds in the mag. It always fed when only 1 or 2 rounds were in mag. Any suggestions???

Sometimes a Mauser will feed the shorter .308 rounds just fine without modifications, sometimes they won't. Modifying the magazine and feed lips are permanent mods and I would not try this on my own unless I really knew what I was doing. I presume the magazine and follower are clean and the spring is in good condition.

There is an available kit that provides a magazine box spacer and a new follower, follower spring, and floorplate that moves the cartridges farther forward in the magazine box and this kit usually improves feed issues with no major modifications.
You can buy these modification kits through Gun Parts Inc. and I am sure several other gun part suppliers carry this kit. HTH

My Spanish FR-8 in 7.62 is a little finicky about feeding from a fully loaded mag. I found that as I load it with loose ammo I have to be careful that the last rount is seated so that the base is "up" aganst the feed rails. It is kind of intrestering that the rifle feeds perfect every time when loaded from stripper clips thru the stripped clip guide.
Im betting your rifle is a Issy rework.

I had the same problem with a Spanish Mauser (1916?) I am converting to a scout rfle and like a dummy I decided to get out my dremmel tool and grind away at the feed lips.

Guess what:::::: IT WORKED! :cool:

I SIMPLY GROUND GENTLY, (READ:A LITLE AT A TIME!!!!) ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FEED LIPS (?) UNTIL THE ROUNDS WOULD FEED CORRECTLY. gUN IS STILL IN THE WORKS, BUT WILL POST PICS SOON.
