I'm an idiot trying to buy some bear spray for when we go picking huckleberries, walks in the woods, hunting, etc. and I'm getting confused by all the claims made about this stuff and the sizes - 9 oz. vs 260 grams, 1.4% CRC (whatever that means), 20% concentration (more confusion).

Could someone tell me which brand/size is the best? I'd like something that sprays at least 20 feet, sprays longer than 5 seconds and has a good track record for working. I've seen Frontiersman, MSI, Self Defense Products, Spray Guard Alaska Premium and others (Froogle Bear Pepper Spray - you'll see the list I got). They all claim they're the best.

Percentage determines more how long it lasts than how hot it is. Heat is determined by Scoville Heat Units or "SCU". The better quality the pepper used then the hotter it will be and the faster it will take effect. At least that's how I understand it. I don't know which bear pepper spray is the best though.

Thanks - that gave me a great starting point. I stumbled on this chart (http://www.counterassault.com/know_your_bear_deterrent.pdf) which compares all the pepper sprays I was looking - and it appears to compare apples to apples.
