Would anyone here know if it's possible to reverse the safety on an 870 Marine Magnum so it would be lefty friendly? And if so, is it a gunsmith or DIY item. Thanks in advance for you time and input.

Remington 870 safeties are NOT reversible.
Somebody makes a left-hand safety you can install yourself, but I don't know their name off hand.

Hate to be contradictory, but...
It's been possible on the ones I have worked on, which were the older pre- locking safety models. I'd recommend getting a 'smith to do it, it's not terribly complicated and should not be expensive. I also _HIGHLY_ recommend (I'd insist if I could make it stick) making sure the receiver is prominently and semi permanently marked on both sides (label maker, engraved plastic or brass plate stuck on- something not necessarily permanent but durable) that the safety has been reversed on that particular gun.
Stay safe,

There are 2 ways to do it. The spring and detent ball are offset to one side, so you can't just flip the button around and put it back in.
1. Redrill the hole for the detent ball and spring, offset to the other side of the centerline, then flip the button around. This may not be all there is to it, but in any case, it requires gunsmithing. Or,
2. Put in a button specially machined to work with the ball and spring in their original location. This is a drop-in installation. You can return it to the original configuration in a couple of minutes.
I bought one of these from a member called willp58.

I was asked about this a few weeks ago, so as an experiment I tried to switch the safety on my 2004 Remington 870P Police gun.
The safety was not reversible.

Well that's that. I guess I look for a pre-'86 870 or a left handed version. Thanks again to all of you who took the time to chip in. :) My stepson will be happy.
