Aimpoint surprise

I have planned on purchasing an Aimpoint so that I can round out my armchair cammando outfit and be bad-a$$ tactical like Tears of the Sun. :neener: errr I mean I like a red dot, parallax free sight.

I figure go with good quality. So I am at the Springfield Mass show and I see one for a great price as compared to anything I can get on line. Then it hits me as I pick it up and really look at it.

This thing is really small. I can't believe how small this thing is. I mean if I am suppossed to keep both eyes open and use this for reflexive shooting.......wow This thing is small.

Who out there uses an Aimpoint to great effect? I mean actually uses it and not just on the big screen. I have another three weeks before this same seller goes to Hartford for the show there. I have three weeks to reevaluate if I want this thing, and to save up for it.

Please let me know about the reflexiveness of this sight.

U.S. Army Rangers use them with good effect. The Aimpoint Comp are going Army wide now.
You almost can't buy a better red dot sight.

I've never used one; when I was in the army, they taught us to shoot. I think the aimpoint teaches one to rely on optical equipment instead of how to shoot unaided and I think that, in a combat situation, that might cost you someday. As I said, I've never used one and that alone makes my opinion worth diddly-squat but I still prefer to use open sights for anything less than 300 meters.:what:

LostOne,
I wholeheartedly agree. That is why my flat top has back up iron sights and my other dissapator only has iron sights to which I use quite alright . This is simply a new toy I am looking at getting like many other tools.

I have an air compressor in my garage, but I can still turn a ratchet with more force than the compressor can muster. Doesn't mean I will never use the compressor or put it to good use when i do.

Let me preface this by saying i am not an operator/deltaguy/ninja/rogue assassin/ranger/seal my service time was 6 in the navy as an electronic Technician.

I like mine a lot and have used it a far bit at the range and at classes. Its quick but not majic, you still have to be able to shoot. I keep my backup irons flipped up so if my dot goes away i'm still sighting. See if your has the CET technology which gives it like years of life on a battery. Mine is the older non-cet type and battery life has never been a problem except for once when i put it back in the safe turned on. I've shot mine at 100yds and can get decent ManOfAngle shots at speed no problem.

I believe a Red Dot aiming system is an improvement over iron sights especially for close in fighting. I also believe the iron sight should not be eliminated either but have both. I never used a Red Dot in combat but now wish I’d had one.

Go to www.sontayraider.com when this SF group was inserted into the Son Tay camp they were equipped with Aim Points. From what I read and heard the Aim Point increased hits (night) on target when so equipped.

I currently have a Red Dot on my SP1 as my house gun.

with the red dot mounted close to the front site, the housing really vanishes

you aim with both eyes open and put the dot on target

There are several models af Aimpoints out there. Some are bigger then others. The tube on a few are pretty small. Some of the others are quite abit bigger.
