Nice knife and kit. Is your F1 the VG-10 version or the new laminated version? How do you like it?

Laminated VG-10. Thanks for the nice words.

I got an F1 and a G1 and H1 for some family before they went to the Laminiated VG10 -- ours are straight VG10.
How does the Laminated VG10 compare??

Apparently Lam. VG-10 performs better but honestly I can't tell the difference. Far too often, you see people touting one steel over another when the two might be extremely comprable. Unless you are a metalurgist, some arguments are ridiculous and the differences negligible. VG-10 and Lam. VG-10 are so very close to me and I'm not a metalurgist. I know it cuts when it has to and that is what is most important to me.

Nice setup!
That beats the hollow-handled hackers of the 1980s in every way! Good choices!
The only changes I might suggest is to wax-dip your matches for a little extra moisture protection (a thin coat is all you want), and perhaps add a safety pin or two, if there's space. I like to carry a repair kit in a tiny tin in my kit, with:
2 straight pins
2 sewing needles
2 safety pins
2 wood screws
2 finishing nails
several feet of strong thread
small coil of soft wire
piece of hot glue stick
I notice you have a Boy Scout Hot Spark kit. Are those still available?
Regards,
Dirty Bob

BSA hotsparks are still available. I buy them up like hotcakes whenever I can. My last ones were purchased from Outdoor World in Southington, CT. They are relatively cheap $3.50 I think. At that price, I use one as a zipper pull on my field jacket. Just cover the striking surface with clear nail polish.

Where is the drooling smiley when I need it?
I WILL have an F1 one of these days.

Very nice! I especially like the use of the small Nalgene bottle to hold your kit.

Is that a secondary bevel I see on the edge or is it a trick of the light?
If it is, did you find the convex edge to be unsatisfactory?

Its just the lighting and not a secondary bevel. It is a great knife and works fine the way it is. Super sharp and never difficult to bring back to a razor's edge.
