Someone is offering me this on trade and I have no idea what it is. Its not a face to face trade so I don't even know what it looks like. A google search neted a bunch of info about the Winchester 94-22 rifle but nothing about a S&W 9422 pistol.
Here is all the info I have on it from the owner:
It was made for only three of four years, .22, semi-auto, and a kind of odd looking piece with the muzzle located where one would expect the spring would be. It has never jammed in a couple hundred rounds and very accurate for a little gun.
I had trouble referencing it too. I did find it in Standard Catalog of Firearms, Collectors Price & Reference Guide, 2002. Good luck. It carries a value in there of $150 - $170 or thereabouts, I don't remember it all. Seems as though Smith made it as a sport/target.

It sounds like a model 422 (blue) or 622 (stainless)

Great guns - reliable and very light.

The pistol picture in the above post is of the 422 target version.
Here in the 422 fixed sight field model on the top and the shorter barrel 2214 'Sportsman' on the bottom.
