Virgil Tripp knows his way around handguns and his family and staff provide great service.

I've had two pistols refinished there, had some gunsmithing done, and am preparing to call them up to arrange for a third project next week.

I'm a fan.

Mr. Tripp spent 20 minutes talking me though fixing my problem myself rather than selling me anything. Class act. If I ever want anything plated I'll send it to him.

Virgil was the "T" ins STI. If anyone knows what to HC and what not to in a pistol it's him. People have reported him calling them before plating when he found problems that should be taken care of beforehand, etc.

I have had one complete gun done with brushed flats , one free repair that saved my six curtesy of Virgil (called and asked permission to fix it no charge) , two slides done , and two serration packages for less than anywhere else with better work . Fast turnaround too ...Tom

He did a Delta Elite for me by way of Ted Yost. Nice finish.

Everything that I have heard says that Tripp is one of the best companies to deal with. I am looking forward to getting my Steyr slide back.

I agree with everyone else. The quality of his work is outstanding, and his turn around times are some of the best in the industry. I've had one gun hard chrome plated so far, and am getting ready to send another one in for his Cobra Coat as we speak.

Mr. Tripp was recommended to me by Teddy Jacobson, who does great work himself. :)

Had him hard chrome an XD 357 for me. He did a fantastic job and the turnaround time was fast. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

And expanding on Zach's comment: Only good things; lots of good things.

I had Virgin hard chrome a Dan Wesson PTE-S 1911 for me 3 years ago. Perfect job; uniform, strong, impervious.

This Christmas, I bought a new Les Baer SRP. I sent it back to LB for their "T-Chrome" finish, since I wanted the SRP to be chromed, but was scared of sending the gun to Tripp due to LB's draconian warranty policy.

I received the gun back from LB in early March after a 2-month wait. The finish job was nowhere as nice as Tripp's.

The SRP is currently en route to Tripp for a rather expensive correction. I will never make the mistake of going anywhere else -- even those purported to be "high end" -- than Virgil Tripp at Tripp Research.

His comparatively superior finish will take 2 weeks, not 2 months.

Tripp also does very nice smithing on 1911s.

I guess I'm a fan...

Thanks to everyone that offered me advice about Tripp Research. I believed what everyone said, but not until I saw it with my own eyes i just didn't realize what nice work they do. I got my S9 slide back in exactly 8 days!! It left my house on a Friday and I got it back on the next Saturday. The finish is truly amazing!! It is like having a whole new gun. Total cost to hard chrome my slide and send it back to me was $80. I will post some pics tomorow.

I have a CZ75B that I would like to have chromed, but need to get some smithing done on it, first. Anyone know if Virgil (not Virgin :D ) does smithing on CZs? I don't want anything fancy, just some FS stippling and new sights.

While don't know specifically, would almost bet he can do CZ's.

At times he can be rough to get on the phone but in my experience he's always answered his Emails if given a few days leeway.

I had a HK P7M8 done by him last year. He called me two days after he got it to tell me there was a part needing replacing. The part took longer to arrive than the actual finishing. When it did arrive it was perfect.
