Is there an assault rifle with a good finish?

I've noticed AK's are really poor.
AR-15's are so-so
MP-5 (smg) are not bad
But none are as well manufactured, using neat manufacturing processes, as pistols and revolvers. You can tell they are mass produced for the sole purpose of getting the job done, no other considerations.
Does anybody know of a WELL manufactured and finished assault rifle?

It depends on the individual brand of the rifle. Some might have crap finishes, but others are quite nice. An SAR-1 might have a bad finish to it, but an Arsenal or Bulgarian AK is going to look quite nice. Most AR's I have seen look pretty nice. One thing to consider is that a battle rifle was mean for just that: battle. A smith and wesson revolver is not necessarily meant for such rugged activities and will not have the same finishes. Pretty might not mean durable.
Either way, pick a rifle that fits you well and that you like and trust, then get it refinished for a relatively nominal cost. I think the thing to learn to love in a battle-type rifle is functionality, not showroom looks.

Valmets came in with nice finishes. The AR70s as well (well, as well as could be applied to that kind of metal). :D
Galils (especially the .308s) weren't that bad either. The Swiss AMTs and FN D Models were probably the best in my memory.

Yes indeed! That's what they are intended for. A dexuxe finish would add to the cost, and do nothing to improve they're core purpose.

And don't forget, shiny=reflection. Not something good on a rifle meant for battle.

You could always consider sending evil rifle of choice in to get finished somewhere. You'd still have a reasonably priced rifle in the case of most AK's. I am not sure that a great finish would really "fit" on most of the AK's I have looked at. It would just seem like a great finish on cheap rifle.
Like others have mentioned these just aren't rifles to be looked at and admired.

Pretty is as pretty does
Parkerized finishes, like on a DSA STG58, are 1) durable, 2) non-reflective, 3) resist corrosion very well. Can't ask much more than that from a rifle meant for rough and tumble world.
Want pretty? Buy a Holland and Holland double rifle

AR's can have exceedingly good fit - the finish is up to you. You can always use a glossier paint on it if you want such a finish. Another good candidate for a more 'sporting fancy' kind of finish would be a Vepr.

Find the gun you like, have it refinished how you like. I do this quite often, but mostly with handguns. I've seen some really beutiful camo and "race paint" work done on various rifles. Particularly ARs and M1s.

Glossy bluing, including the bolt, very good looking rifle even with a thumbhole stock (they used a very blonde wood).

Su-dumb in Iraq had AK-47's that were gold plated. Maybe this could start a trend?? :scrutiny: :D

I know AK's ain't the prettiest or best finished but to be honest - most I have seen I'd call well adequate.
Aesthetics are somewhat of a luxury and economic burden on a simple working carbine (won't use dreaded ''assault'' ! :p ) - and doubt there are too many in this category that will be finished, as in what we mean by finish on classy 1911's for instance, or high end semi's.

Yup - Hungarian AKs & SIG-AMTs and SIG 510-4s.
Maybe other SIGs, I haven't seen many of the other models.
Most of the Factory H&Ks I've seen had nice paint jobs. ;)
