Just wanted to report on some 'smithing I had done on an Argentine Sistema 1911. Ed Brown barrel/bushing, EB beavertail gs, sandblast and reblue (I had previously gotten a trigger job to bring down the pull to a crisp 4 1/4 lb.and added some King's Hardballl sights). The outfit doing the work was Gunsmoke in the Denver area. I had heard good and bad about these guys; but, apart for taking over twice as long as originally estimated I am pleased with the work. The barrel/bushing seems to have been fitted extremely well; and the beavertail is only slightly less so with a slight gap showing on one side about halfway down. The bluing came out pretty good on the old clunker. For me, though, the proof is in the functioning. So I took her right out and put 50 rounds downrange. The loads were my 230 gr ball reloads using 5 grns Bullseye. I wasn't really doing accuracy work, but even the offhand stuff at about 10 yrds. tells me there is a vast improvement in the new barrel's accuracy. Functioning was perfect with 4 mags (Wilson, SA, Powermag, & Shooting Star). The only downside so far is the pistol is real hard to get apart- the bushing just doesn't seem to want to come out in the takedown sequence.

Typically, aftermarket bushings that are properly fitted require a bushing wrench to take down. Brownells sells a plastic one that won't scratch your blue job.

Enjoy your refit!
