I need such a support group...
I have guns in my collection that were purchased soley for their having some property that would be handy in a SHTF scenario. For instance, my first pistol, a Glock 22 was purchased primarily for the reason that my dealer had the 29rd mags for half of the market price (this was before the ban expired). My other rational was that I could scavenge mags and ammo from fallen LEO's fairly easily (again a SHTF thought). I have two VEPRs that were purchased because Wolf is cheap and the chinese drum mags can be left loaded.
These guns happen to also have characteristics that make them less practical for every day shooting. .40S&W is 50% more than 9mm ammo with marginal benefits in terminal performance and has snappier recoil. Also, I do not shoot the Glock 22 nearly as well as any of my other pistols. The issue with the VEPRs is that the local range won't allow the use of steel cased ammo so I am stuck paying 11 bucks a box for 40 rounds of Cheetah instead of 2 bucks a box of Wolf.
Sometimes I think I should have got a 92FS and a CX4 Storm but now that I have the Glock22 and Vepr I cannot bring myself to sell them because of what if....
Anyone one else want to join the club. Admitting your problem is the first step to healing.

I am still in denail. I have a wall full of Mosins, cause I feel that once SHTF all the city dwellers will want the food that we grow. They also won't want to pay for it. That would be a bad choice on their part.

Well, I don't belong in YOUR group! I have bought guns for ABSOLUTELY NO reason at all!!!
I DO need a 12-step program for this addiction though. But I don't WANT to be cured------------YET!

When I find I'm not shooting a rifle in my safe very often or not at all, I sell/trade it for the flavor of the week. Most recently a Colt 6920 replaced the GB Mini-14.
I like the idea of SHTF guns as I believe that is why the 2nd amendment is there. Everyone who owns guns should have at least one military style gun with zero "sporting purposes", IMO.
Too bad about your range. I don't know the reason for the ban on steel cased ammo. Are you sure they don't mean steel core?

I am guilty of this as well.
All of my firearms were purchased for some purpose or another, either a camping, trail gun (Blackhawk .357), CCW (Bersa .380 & SA XD9c), HD (Mossberg 500), cheap training for me and my wife (Ruger 22/45).
But I have two firearms that I purchased just in the off chance of SHTF. I know, I know, its so unlikely to happen, but I just felt it was best to have them, just in case.
I had a Swedish Mauser and a SMLE, originally purchased when I wanted to collect old bolt action battle rifles, but the ammo was hard to find and expensive, and I wanted a semi-auto, so I sold them, and purchased a SKS. I then decided that .308 would be a better SHTF round than 7.62x39, so I purchased a CETME.
I have found that I also stock up ammo and spare parts for the same reason.

Hi my name is Darkmind, I’m a SHTFaholic. Just last week I ordered a 1000 rounds of M855 regardless of the fact that I’m not running out nor running low on 5.56.

Our household rule is 1000 round per caliber in the home. Make that 10k for .22!

Well I belong. It has gotten so bad that I have ordered ammo for guns I am thinking about buying just because I got it at a good price. On the upside, I have purchased guns based on the fact that I now have ammo and NEED a gun to shoot it with. Yes there is a method to the madness.

LoadedDrum,
Send me an e-mail. I live just outside the western wall of Emporer Dickie's People's Democratic Republic. Scale the wall or tunnel out and you having a standing invite to come with me to my club in the western 'burbs and shoot your toys. You can shoot whatever guns/ammo you want, just no full auto. (Scares the neighbors).
Got a chance last weekend to shoot a 50BMG.
Muzzlebrakes - Good for shoulder, bad for ears.
P.S. I won't tell Lord Vader that you have self-guided machines of death is his Sheeple Paradise.

Ammo can always be traded as a commidity if TSHTF. However I'd recommend caution. The nazis were big on bribing folk to turn in their gun hiding neighbors.

Hello, my name is Farnham, and I'm a SHTFaholic.
I feel bad when I buy any gun not chambered in 7.62x51, 7.62x39, 5.56, or 9mm, because I can scavenge those rounds in case of:
Chinese/North Korean/UN/Canadian/Australian/Iranian/British/Italian/German/Thai/Japanese/Belgian/Syrian/Turkish/Vietnamese/Malay/Pakistani/Indian/Luxembourg/Congo/Zombie/Alien/Ninja invasion.
Trample the weak, hurdle the dead, and always keep enough ammo on hand to repel the entire Wehrmacht. And keep up on your shots, I hear that typhoid shots delay the onset of zombification.

I am proud of my SHTF preparations and mindset. The S will HTF someday. I do not pretend to know when. But how long can a country survive that has to borrow $1,500,000 per minute to stay afloat?
It is not that all the doomsdayers have been wrong. It is a matter of the system gaining more and more speed before it hits the brick wall.
Got guns? (and gold, food, supplies, ect...)

Loaded drum, $11 a box/40 for Chetah? Sounds AWFUL high. Buy a case, or split a case with someone.

I'm definately a member of the group. I may not be as well prepared as I'd like, but who is? Sometimes if I'm having a really bad day I wish TS would HTF. It'd be neat to have a forum devoted to SHTF topics.

My name is Mark8252 and I am a SHTFaholic. I am on the road to a normal life now.
I have admitted to myself and my friends that I do not need a reason to purchase any firearm. I just want it and thats it. Nothing more to say.
I have realised that I do not care what others think. I do not care what they would of purchased instead of the firearm I bought. I have realised its my money and I will do as I damn well please.
I sure feel better now

My Father has prepared backpack style 3 day emergency supply kits (MRE's, Matches, First Aid Kit, Poncho, etc.) for the entire family.
To go with this I have prepared gun belts with holster and plenty of extra mag holders for the entire family. I have shotgun shells on a bandolier, and I am seriously contemplating the purchase of a Blackhawk Tac vest though I would likely only ever need it in a carbine class.

Unfortunately, the yocals at the range use the magnet test and do not care how wrong that is. The last time I was there they confiscated a guy's supply.

I know Vector sells it cheaper but they will not ship into Cook County.

You shoulda went with a 23 instead. A lot of officers use the mid-sized glocks. If you dont own one its a good reason to get one;)
Well, I don't belong in YOUR group! I have bought guns for ABSOLUTELY NO reason at all!!! I always have a reason. For example, I'm picking up a SA Mil-Spec this Friday because its parkerized, all my other 1911s are stainless...

Loaded Drum, have any friends out-of-county?
OK, now that we're in true confession hour, I can admit my problem.
I,...I keep a Winchester 94 carbine, and a Browning 1886 carbine in my truck all the time, and enough ammo to get by for a long time if strictly hunting/foraging. Oh, and the Smith K-22 also,.... and a couple boxes af 44's or 45 colt loads too. ...and most of my camp gear, and a few days worth of food......and sometimes a scoped bolt gun.
Probably won't ever have to buy primers again after stocking up during the Great Primer Famine of the late 1900's. Buy a big box or two of 22's every month or two when in wal-mart, just a bit more than my shooting habit requires.
Maybe my concept of SHTF is more tame than some have. I think in terms of a depression, natural disaster like a major earthquake, or....an invasion by the dreaded Canadians. I think they've been eyeing our warm country, making plans, for a long time. One day when we least expect it,........All those snow birds will be found out for what they really are, infiltraters!!!! merely disguised as RV driving retirees.

I'm currently in the ammo whording stage. The guns are bought, the mags are bought, at this point I'm just buying ammo.
They may never ban guns but they will figure out a way to ban the ammo or tax it so heavily that we can't afford it any more. I want to have plenty on hand if that every happens!

Saw a bumper sticker a while back that tempted me:
I support Gun Rights
In case of Zombie Attack
But so far, I wouldn't fare too well. Don't even have a regulation zombie-splatting shotgun, just a Steyr M40... and a lot of swords...

I just bought 1500 rounds of .40s&w (glock22) at the crossroads gunshow at the cow palace, when I got home I realized I had 1000 rounds at home allready,so I went back and loaded up on .357mag.
Like Seattle it is entirely possible that we might have a zombie attack
I feel totally unprepared though. I have got to learn reloading.
OK,now that we are admitting we are powerless to stop the S hitting the F we need some steps and have to carry the message to others so we won't have to shoot them when they have no water or food & they want ours

Hi, my name is Trooper and im a SHTFaholic.
i spent 3 hours today looking at SKS accesories and 7.62x39 brass and Dies.
Im wanting to get a C&R so i can buy more Swedish M38s, Enfield No4 MK IIs, SKS, Mossins, and Tokarev Pistols. i am also struggling with an ammo hording addiction, and feel "off" if i dont have al least 20 SKS stripper clips loaded at all times. i keep a CASE of 7.62 under my bed, and also soemtimes sleep with a S&W .38 snubby under my pillow.
Is there any hope for me?

I fall asleep nightly looking straight down at the front sight... hammer inches from my face. I like it. A lot. :uhoh: When I'm making more money, I will fall asleep with at least 2... or 7... guns within reach upon waking. Yes... oh, yes. :o

You are right of course. I bought the Glock 22 when I was fairly ignorant of what was out there but I am considering picking up a Glock 33 with a G27 barrel and a 9mm Federal or KKM conversion barrel for the ultimate in SHTF versatillity. 3 calibers (2 of which are common), 4 magazine sizes, and concealability, does it get any better?

If I bought a gun <go figure?> I would only buy ones that I thought would be fun to shoot. That said they are all fun to shoot (well except maybe a 10ga single shot that is about 6lbs, using 1.75oz slugs, ohhhh)

Unissued Yugo SKS - $150
1000 rounds of 7.62x39 - $89
100 stripper clips - $25
5 bandoliers - $5
Being the only one on your block able to fight off hordes of Zombies....
Priceless

I'm not to the SHTFaholic stage yet, at least in my mind, but I am getting there. Just pickedup 2 SKS's, a WASR, and 1,500rds of ammo in the last 5 mos for no other reason than if the S H the F, or if they get banned. I think the pre-Nov. 2 election stress sparked it in me. I got to thinking it's only a matter of time before the libs are successful in banning SKS's and AK's. After every crazy incident in the news involving these (the Wisconsin deer hunter incident, NY Mall shooting, Tyler shooting), it makes me want to go buy one more, because I fear one day we won't be able to.
I won't consider myself a SHTFaholic until I start buying PVC pipe and cosmoline. ;)

I've been called many things (mostly by liberal acquaintances who are permanently stuck in condition white) - but never a SHTFaholic. Still, there's no denying that I am among those who prefer not to leave things to chance and do all that I can to ensure that the odds of my survival are at least even. ;)
