HEADLINE: Peter takes pot shot at gun law
BODY:
STATE Member for Southport Peter Lawlor sharpened his trusty verbal sword in debate of the Occupants (Home Invasion) Protection Bill in Parliament last week.
Saying the Bill should be retitled 'Dolly Get Your Gun', our Pete, as distinct from Premier Pete, maintained the Bill was flawed by creating a vigilante approach to even innocent strangers straying within the property boundary.
"It's a licence to kill," he thundered. "an absolute abomination."
As a lawyer, Mr Lawlor was quick to point out that the courts should be the final arbitrator on the question of legal force.
"Even someone asking for directions or mistaking an address could be shot on the spot if the Bill was taken on face value," he said.
"Let us be thankful that telemarketing has taken over from door-to-door salesmen because they could be shot on sight according to this Bill.
"What if I'm invited to a person's house and they get sick of me and ask me to leave. If I don't go immediately I could be shot."
Come on, Pete, who would do that to a nice guy like you?

We'll have blood in the streets! Rampant violence! Dogs cavorting with cats! uh.....
