Group, I need some help… A friend who is not a shooter asked me to assist him by providing accurate data on the handguns used by the military (including special ops) and the various governmental agencies (alphabet soup variety) between the years of 1972-82 and then from 1992-2003. I’m having a senior moment (59 on 3/8…duh) and don’t want to give him any wrong data. He is involved in a literary pursuit and wants to be certain that he has his facts correct. It is nice to see someone who has not had contact with weapons and shooting request information rather than just cook up something that has little historical merit.

The Air Force was using Smith M15s into the 1980s.
I used to see the gate guards carrying them when I visited the local air base to shoot Hunter's Pistol Silhouette matches.

The Army was issuing the 1911-1911A1 45 then.

According to Dick Marcinko (SP?) the SEALS used Smith M66s. He wrote that they stood up to salt water better than some auto pistols.

That's all I can come up with at the moment.
