I'm talking handguns......Usually I just roll out the target somewhere between ten and thirty feet and put about 100 rounds center mass on a Q target.
After that I mess around with some weak hand stuff and some longer distance bullseye shooting......howbout you guys?

Howdy, Sonny...my preferred handgunning distance is about the same as yours. I've used anything from bullseye targets to silhouettes to just torso-sized cardboard rectangles with 3"x3" sticky-notes on them for targets.

I usually run 100-150 rounds through my primary carry piece, mostly two-hand hold but in upcoming range trips I'm going to practice one-hand and weak-hand shooting. When I can I do some practice "from the leather," too...draw, go on target, disengage safety, fire one or two rounds, reapply safety, and reholster, but only after some good dry-weapon practice like that at home first.

I also usually shoot out all the JHPs I've been carrying first...then move to FMJ for the bulk of practice, then maybe some more JHPs at the end.

I start and end with accuracy drills at about 7 yards. Shoot the same hole. Followed by blind swordsman, weak hand, dominant hand, one hand reloads, mal drills, transitions, some seated, some moving stuff (box drills and falling back), long range stuff back to 50 yards, retention, ground fighting, etc.

You can mix and match here as well, e.g. one hand ground fighting or weak hand reloads. Good to mix in some dry practice here as well.

I break it up: some days I "disable" my dominant hand and shoot left hand only, shoot the bug all day, I spend all day on the 100 yard rifle range shooting B-27s, or sometimes I do nothing but steel.

I try to keep it under 300 rounds. Good to have a range partner.

Good shooting.

My first shots of any range session are "cold" from my ccw gun, drawn from concealment, at a target set 5 to 7 yards out. Just 3 rounds, 2 center mass with a head follow up.

After that I don't really follow any particular routine.

I consider these the most important shots of the session, because if I ever need to use my ccw gun it will be from a cold unpracticed draw.

After a few dry practices or repetitions, I get faster and more accurate. That doesn't matter as much to me as whether I get faster and more accurate on the cold draw from session to session.

Lately, I've been doing most of my shooting at 50'. Strong hand, weak hand, both hands. At some point I even work in some double taps. This is good for abou 200-400 rounds depending on mood.
When I'm done w/ that, I play w/ my 22's...good for another 500 rounds.
Then I'll spend the next hour+ just hanging out & talk about guns and how poorly I shoot.

My routine is usully simple. Eat drink, sleep, work shoot, maybe fool around with the wife once in a while.
Not necessarily in that order, although once or twice all at the same time!

I start out shooting the Mark -2 ,I put about a brick thru it. Then I switch to a big bore pistol about 200-300 rounds. Then usually chew the fat with the guys at the range. :)

I usually have a box or five of new handloads that need trying, so I'll set up a handful of targets and roll them out to 7yds. If I feel like doing some "serious" shooting, I'll set up some kind of silhouette at 7yds. If I feel like embarassing myself, I'll roll a target out to 15yds!

That depends on the purpose of the range session.
When I'm training for matches, I put up the precision target at 25m and slowly shoot five shot strings, after 20 shots I replace the target and count the points.
When I'm shooting the monthly score for the club championships, it's a different target, ten shots for checking right POA, five shots that count.
When the right guys are at the range, we'll do something less p/c and shoot bowling pins, foam filled PE bottles, do reload drills, double taps, malfunction drills,... :D

I usually do a cold run on whatever drill I was working on last week. Then I work on the next drill. After about 12-20 runs on the drill I do some general shooting. A little weak hand, a little one hand, then usually some group shooting at 25yds to finish. I usually shoot 100-200 rnds once or twice a week.

Last weeks drill was shoot 2 to the chest 1 to the head, reload, repeat. Timed (I just got a shot timer not to long ago :) ).

Today was just hosing down an IDPA target a 3-5 meters. Load 5 shots and dump 'em fast as possible. This is a ton of fun and much more laid back than usual, but I just felt like playing around :D .

www.brianenos.com is a good place to get ideas for drills.
