Initially here, let me say that ahenry has been doing a fine job of posting TX happenings in the "State Legislative" forum here at THR. Some individuals may want to read up there to get up to speed on current events in this legislative session. See http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9209
From a TSRA "update" that I received this morning (posted in it's entirety at bottom here), it looks like Rep. Hupp already has 49 others solidly on board as joint authors with H.B. 878. So, if one of those Reps. is from your district, GOOD ON YOU. Maybe write or call just to say "thank you".
For those whose Rep. is listed below, please consider making the time to TACTFULLY write or call to request support in accordance with TSRA suggestions below. The Rep. in my district, Mary Denny, is already a co-author, so I sent the following today to the Representative in an adjacent district! On my "do list" next is to write the Rep. in the Panhandle where I went to school.
Please look over the list below and light 'em up! Tactfully.

As you may recall, I contacted your office a few weeks ago when Rep. Hupp was in the early stages with H.B. 878. Although I live and work just south or west of your district, I have certified a number of CHL students from the Denton area and am writing to share some of our mutual feelings.
Just yesterday I drove to Austin to pick up my daughter from the dorm at UT. Before going inside to help carry out her luggage for spring break, I started taking off my concealed handgun (secured in an ankle holster) to be able to leave it locked in our vehicle. My wife looked at me and asked "Why do you HAVE to do that? Who's going to know anyway? The dorm is virtually deserted. I think that gun is a whole lot safer where you had it than leaving it out in this parking lot for someone to steal!" My answer, "Sorry, you know it's the law. Hopefully we won't be in there very long."
After we picked up my daughter and her luggage, she wanted to take us over to visit an apartment complex where she will live next semester. She suggested that we first have lunch at a nearby Luby's Cafeteria. Upon arrival, I said a little prayer, being thankful that, due to the efforts of Mrs. Hupp, Jerry Patterson and many others, I was able to carry in Luby's and everywhere else that we subsequently traveled yesterday. (In fact, there are very few places in my normal routine that I can't legally carry.)
With that said, I hope you understand that many of us are quite troubled by some bureaucrats' beliefs that CHL people should be required to disarm before entering many public buildings. A simple example is an experience I had at the new city hall in Highland Village. For whatever reason, they have "the sign", although I'm not certain it is in strict compliance. But, being a law-abiding citizen, I've disarmed when going in there to take care of business related to leasing softball and baseball fields for our kids' teams. Each time, however, I felt very uncomfortable having to leave my handgun unattended in my vehicle - and believing that the City of Highland Village (or any other city) should not have a right to treat trained, confirmed-law-abiding taxpaying citizens in such a manner.
Beyond that, when entering city hall, I was not at all comforted by the fact that I knew of some extremely disgruntled former employees, one recently terminated by the Parks and Recreation Department, in addition to some police officers. An improbable scenario, but if, what if, one of those people (or someone else) decided to "go postal" while I was inside? Does anyone really think that a "No Guns" sign on the exterior doors is going to stop them? Or be much consolation to my family if I am found dead inside while my handgun is locked up outside? We respectfully request your understanding that such buildings may currently be perceived by criminals (or terrorists in the future?) as "prime targets" where they hope to find little or no armed resistance.
Realistically, it is our view that the probability of problems is far greater if CHL people are required to disarm than just simply letting us make independent decisions before entering the government faciliities specified in H.B. 878.
Please feel free to contact me as necessary.
