My Kimber Went Blind !

Yes, my Kimber lost its sight....

My friend, his two boys and I were having a nice day of plinking in the desert. I was having a good old time making use of 2 liter soda bottles when all of a sudden I the real sight blade is gone. All I see is the front sight and that is it. :what:

At first I thought it fell out or something but after closer inspection I can see it broke off.

I can honestly say I have never heard of this happening to this type of adjustable sight. Kimber uses the Bo-Mar low-mount style (don't know if it is actually a Bor-mar), which seemed to be a rugged design. Goes to show you anything can break.

Anybody know of a good replacement? I think I am thinking of going to a fixed sight. I have seen replacement fixed sights that look like this same low-mount setup. Now I just have to find one.

I will probably call Kimber and see if they will/can do anything about it. I have had the pistol for 4 yrs now. I guess I have nothing to lose by calling them.

Attached is a picture of the rear sight. The Kimber is a Classic Stainless Target (pre-series II)

I've read about this happening on the 1911 forum - it's pretty rare. In the other examples of this happening Kimber fixed it.

You didn't break your sight, you invented the best low-mount, no-snag, tactical, low-profile, lightweight, adjustable sight in the world.

Now get out there and market your new gadget and make your fortune! :D

Thanks for the info Rick-Reno.

Although Fly320s may be on to something. Maybe I should be calling the patent office before calling Kimber. :D

It used to happen to Kimber sights pretty regularly. Mine blew off my Eclipse after 1000 rounds and I saw my friends Kimber do the same.

Send it back and they'll fix it fast.

This is a very common occurance with Kimber adjustable rear sights, especially with the series I pistols :(

The sight Kimber uses looks like Bomar but is infact a cheap copy with cheap (weak) MIM components. Early adjustable sights would break within the first 3,000 rounds. Third one I had installed only lasted 700-800 rounds  My Target model had the rear sights replaced 4 times within the first 12 months and after the sixth rear sight I just had a real Bomar sight installed. I've heard that the current adjustable sights are more durable but I have no confidence in them :fire: I know of two other friends who's Kimber adjustable sights had to be replaced more than once.

Kimber will replace the rear sight for you so just call Dennis at custom shop and tell him what happened. You will have to sent the slide to them and they will get it back to you within 5 days after receiving it. Don't send the entire pistol... just the slide.

Nice pistol but the rear sight is POS

if you do decide to go with a fixed sight and like the "bomar" look, take alook at the heine fixed sight set.
