U.S. Enfield M1917- .30-06, 6rds fit in the magazine, but it's fed by 5rd strippers. Aperture rear sight.

U.S. Springfield 1903 and 1903A3- .30-06, 5rd magazine, fed be 5rd strippers.
Rear sight are a ladder or an aperture, respectively.

Also, some countries rebarrel K98k Mausers to .30-06. Those have 5rd magazines too. :)

I have been very pleased with my Rem. model 700. Mine is in .270 win and it is very accurate. They do however only hold 4 rounds in the magazine, but you could get 5 with one in the chamber.

edited to say: The 700 mountian rifle DM has a detachable magazine

The Savage 114 and Remington 700 DM have a box magazine; five round versions maybe available in the aftermarket. The Browning A-Bolt has a detachable magazine, but it's actually retained on the floorplate and doesn't drop freely.

That's about all I can think of in the off-the-shelf category..

If you have to have the detachable box magazine.

Otherwise, there are plenty of 700 BDL models in .30-06 out there, new and used, for the asking.

Now there's a gun that's been around about 4 years too long. :scrutiny:

Shotgunner;

I believe that the Tikka has detachable 5 shot mags catalogued. Whether or not the price is reasonable is another question.

5-shot bolt-action .30-06? Rare. Can't think of any, off-hand.

Seriously, ain't many problems that a man can't fix.............

Is .308 close enough? http://www.robarguns.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=5&tabindex=3

If not, they can probably do something similar with a BAR mag.

I’ve got two Steyr-Mannlicher’s, one in .270, the other in 30-06, and both have the rotary 5 shot magazine.

Tikka T3, buy the Varmint model to get the 5 round mag or just buy an additional mag. The Hunter and Lite models come with 3 round drop free mags, Varmint and Tactical come with the 5 rounders.

Guranteed 1MOA out of the box, most of the sporter weight T3s will easily do 1/2MOA with handloads or good factory ammo.

My T3 Lite in .308Win is a great shooter.

Buying New?
How about a Howa? High Quality -- Cheap -- Reliable -- Accurate -- Mag capacity is 5 + 1 -- Silent three position safety
How about a Steyr SBS? High Quality -- Reliable -- Accurate -- Detachable Mag -- Capacity is 5+ or 10+ 1 optional -- Silent three position safety
Buying Used?
How about a Ruger 77 Tang Safety -- Cheap -- Sometimes Accurate -- Always Reliable -- Semi Silent two position safety

Why does it HAVE to have 5 rounds, and why does it HAVE to have detachable magazine? Just curious, if we knew that it may be easier to advise.

The Savage 110C has a detachable 4-round magazine...that's close, anyway.

He didn't say it had to have a detachable mag, it's just that many guns with that capacity have detachable mags.

Try a remington 710 or Savage 110, You can buy aftermarket detachable mags for the 710 under $15-20. Also, hit the hock shops. I'm partial to Mauser 98 large ring models, not to be confused with the 98k, which is a military model.

The WWII-era Mauser K98k (Karabiner) is a true large ring Mauser 98, and a derivative of the earlier WWI-era Gewehr98.

Not sure I know what you're trying to say above, do you mean the various commercial variants of the 98 Mauser sans stripper clip slots and thumb relief cuts?
