Shot a round through one of these the other day :)
This guy at the range was cool enough to let me give it a go. Recoil wasnt as bad as I have heard. Wasn't pleasant either:p I guess having a 6 pound pistol thats gas operateded helps.:D
I want one just because. Has no real purpose, but what the hell right? Ammo seems hard to get. This was IMI 300 Grain. The flash and muzzle blast was unreal. Was worse than .44 Mag. Sounded like a shotgun not a pistol. Thought I would share with you guys.
Oh I kept the shell casing. Gonna make a necklace charm out of it!:D Or maybe leave it on my desk instead :)

Sounds like what I would do if I shot one!

One range used to have one but sold it after the initial interest wore off, and most others were just too scared to try!

Sounds like you had a blast. A range I go to use to rent the 50AE De but the concussion from the muzzle blast use to break the flouresent bulbs.:what:

A shot gun.....I think they sound more like a Muzzle Loader..."Bellowing Boom"...
Way to go....youve shot a gun very people get the chance to..and when the get the chance...very few do.
My pop reloads for the 50 AE....."Evil Reloads" Youd think some one just snuck a real muzzle loader in the lane next to you....and the targets sail in the wind..no matter where they are in the range......"Could you please wait to shoot that, please?"
Shoot well

There's a used DE in .50AE at a local shop for $1200. I have no idea if this is good or not, but they'll be happy to sell it I'm sure :) .

I'll dig up their number if you want...

Freaking thing is BIG though.

DE's are awesome, I have had 2 of them to date (have 1 currently)....both 50s.

They aren't practical, but that's not why I bought them, DEs are a boat load of fun to shoot.

I need to take mine out, haven't shot it in awhile.:o

HUH?

You could stop after just one shot???

I've always wanted to tinker with reloading the 50AE round - PCRCCW, would you send me some of the recipies? With the IMI .44mag, I can load a 300gr to just under 1300fps - though I do smear headstamps on +p nickle cases. To expand my reloading horizons I'm having fun stuffing the Super Redhawk!

megatronrules - I bet you go back and do it again. . .

:D

One round was all he had left:D Really was cool of him to let me try as i was drooling next to him! :p I wasnt passing up a chance to shoot that. Even when I saw how the recoil was with him shooting it. I figured the worst that would happen would be that i got the front sight indented into my forehead :)
I really want one too. I saw one in a pawn shop for $799! Of course I didnt have the money though.:( :( :(

I've got the AMT Automag V in 50ae

I had one for a very short period of time, very nice looking gun. Bought it new from Galina Ind, they still had some leftover over from the original owners.

Few things though that were a problem.

1. The grips would constantly come loose after firing a couple rounds.

2. The metal backstrap was brutal, it tore my hand apart.

3. The gun had a nasty problem of locking the slide back after each shot fired.....that was super annoying.

4. Even with the takedown tool, the gun was a hassle to take apart.

5. I sold the gun like a 1 month after I bought it and took a bath on it.

It was my fault, tons of people told me "not" to buy it and that the .50 had issues.

Hey JG -- Are you a lefty?????

I never had any trouble with the grips--

Yup--The recoil is BRUTAL-- It isn't all that much heavier than a long slide 1911

As to the slide locking back--

I never had any problem--
BUT
\A good friend of mine is left handed and the slide locks back EVERY time on him--
And It beat him up worse than me--

Just curious if it's a design problem exacerbated by left hand use---???

Hey JG -- Are you a lefty

Actually, indeed I am.......sounds like you're onto something.

I wonder why that would be, strange.

Its definitely the grip on that gun, because since its ported....the recoil shouldn't be that bad.

I'll bet wrap around Hogue grips, etc would do wonders for the Automag V (although I don't think its possible to add them).

:D It's a blast ain't it? (pun intended) One of my buddies has one and I shoot it whenever I get a chance...

From where my friend was getting cut-- I thought maybe the left index finger put pressure on the slide stop directly--

The gun torques almost more than it recoils and that could cause the rise in the broad area below the slide stop for a lefty while a righty would only have a shorter thumb there which tended to be torquing away regardless--

Could be it--

Thanks for the quick reply:)

A friend of mine showed me this today, DE muzzle flash in a semi-dark room :D

edit: Darn, didn't post correctly, oh well, it is the 6th pic from the top on the far right column.

I got a D.E. Mk VII .44Mag

No way I was gonna get the .50

Ammo cost's too much and is not as readily avaliable as .44

Recoil is no problem at all, and neither is the MR.

Follow up speed is decent.

I took my sister & my son to a small range outside my hometown one day to plink with some .22's. When I say small range I mean there was one bench and one backstop.
There was a guy already there sighting in his muzzleloader, said he'd be done in a couple of minutes. When he finished up with the muzzle loader he pulle out a scoped Desert Eagle 50ae and fired off a few rounds.
He asked if I wanted to try it. I didn't hesitate much. After I fired a few rounds at the target he comes over with a bowling ball and rolled it out about 20 yards and said try that.
One shot center of mass and the ball was in about 20 pieces. What a hoot!

Although the 50AE Desert Eagle is amusing to fire, I never really cared for the way it jammed up, locked back, and cut my finger on a regular basis. I'm holding out for the S&W 500. More power and waaaaay better quality.

It was cutting your finger, how? Did you examine an S&W 500 yet? How do you know its better quality. The DE is built very well to handle the rounds its chambered for.

Holding out for the S&W 500? The gun is not going to be that pricey......stores are starting to take orders in the $750 area, once the gun becomes common, they will be slightly lower. I might just get one for s*its and giggles.

Also, the ammo is $35 for 12 rounds. That gun is for hunting, a DE .50 will be more range and wallet friendly (at least in the ammo department).
