This is what the First Amendment is worth....

In case anyone wonders about John Kerry's attitude toward our Constitutional liberties, this quote from P.J. O'Rourke's article in The Weekly Standard, March 21, 2005 edition:

Addressing the audience of tame Democrats, Kerry explained his defeat. “There has been,” he said, “a profound and negative change in the relationship of America’s media with the American people. . . . If 77 percent of the people who voted for George Bush on Election Day believed weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq—as they did—and 77 percent of the people who voted for him believed that Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11—as they did—then something has happened in the way in which we are talking to each other and who is arbitrating the truth in American politics. . . . When fear is dominating the discussion and when there are false choices presented and there is no arbitrator, we have a problem.”

O'Rourke goes on to say:

"America is not doctrinaire. It’s hard for an American politician to come up with an ideological position that is permanently unforgivable. Henry Wallace never quite managed, or George Wallace either. But Kerry’s done it. American free speech needs to be submitted to arbitration because Americans aren’t smart enough to have a First Amendment, and you can tell this is so, because Americans weren’t smart enough to vote for John Kerry."

Let me see....can I guess who Kerry would approve as the "arbitrators" of the First Amendment. Might there be nine of them, and do they wear black robes while at work? For the entire article, see:

Same old sore loser. Same old snivelling and whining. Ho, hum.

America wasn't dumb enough to elect that Kerry creature.

It goes to show his belief that the common man=the common rabble. His lack of faith in the Citizens of this land is amazing, and sickening.

He has every intention of running again, as does Edwards.

Both will be crushed by Hillery though, and she's worse than both of those clowns put together.

Standing Wolf, I'm going to borrow your signature line and say it should be applied if ever we should have a ruler who behaves in the manner the implied by the article.

No tyrant should ever be allowed to die a natural death.

America isn't dumb enough to elect Shillary Snopes Clinton.

By all means. A tyrant is a tyrant is a tyrant.

I hope you're right, SW, but my gut reaction is that this just isn't so. America was dumb enough to elect the other Clinton, and very nearly elected Kerry. I think that about half this country is very dumb, indeed.

That is about as good as saying that we should abolish the First amendment because hlf the country is dumb enough to vote for Bush. Simply put, not everyone has the same views on how the country should be run. I would bet that the majority of people wouldn't care about freedoms as long as their TV ran and they had a job. Assuming of course that their freedoms that they enjoyed wern't taken away.

Never mind, you are right. They are dumb.

America wasn't dumb enough to elect that Kerry creature. Should be: America wasn't quite dumb enough to elect that Kerry creature.

Kerry shouldn't have gotten 20% of the vote. The closeness of the race is a sad reflection on the US. [and GWB].

America wasn't dumb enough to elect Snopes Clinton: he got into the White House both times because a.) the Republican candidates gave "wuss" a bad name, and b.) lots of Americans voted for Ross Perot. Snopes Clinton won by default.

You're right. Fortunately, close counts only in horseshoes and hand grenades.
