WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The restaurant menus in the three House office buildings will change the name of "french fries" to "freedom fries," a culinary rebuke of France, stemming from anger over the country's refusal to support the U.S. position on Iraq.
Ditto for "french toast," which will be known as "freedom toast." Obviously, as we face war, terrorism, WMD, and other sundry threats to our freedom, the names of the side dishes in the House restaurant are our nation's highest priority...

I seem to very vaguely recall that during WW2, "sourkraut" was re-named "liberty cabbage".
Not that I am old enough to actually remember that, but maybe was from 4th or 5th grade History class.......or related by Mom or Dad ? ? ? ?

Why yes, I'd like an order of Freedom Fries! Why, no truly red-blooded American jingoist would be caught dead ordering something so dastardly as 'French Fries.' By God, I think that if you order french fries your citizenship should be suspended and you should be held as an unpatriotic enemy combatant.
Give me an effing break, I have little time and no patience for idiotic shows of moronic symbolism.
Besides, French Fries are an American invention!
(Along with hamburgers, and fortune cookies, among others.)

Now that you mention it, I remember reading somewhere that 'Hamburger' was replaced with 'Salsbury Steak' during WWI. I guess 'twas a reference to Hamburg.

I found a use for those roles of bio/chem duct tape. My Maxwell house French roast is now .....no never mind... actually, I like the sound of French roast.

Oh great! Now the poor high school and college students who are taking French language classes are going to be ostracized. Somehow Freedom 101 just doesn't sound right.
Ridiculous.

I have been using the "F*" word to replace the other "F*" word.. To call someone "French" seems to be more insulting.. :D
Them's SERIOUS fighting words!

When was the last time you ate a "FRANKFURTER" ?
Them's "Hot Dogs" you say?
Funny... they used to be Frankfurters.
Besides, I seem to recall french fries being a Belgian invention, just that US troops were under the impression they were in France.
Freedom Fries it is then!

Nope, Belgium. My bad. Does this mean that the Belgian waffle was invented somewhere other than Belgium?

Actually, this re-naming of American foods so they don't have the word "French" in them is probably the biggest favor we could do the French. If there is anything a froggie cultural elitist hates, it is the association of France with bastardized American food culture.
