I have an old Weaver K4. The crosshair in the post and crosshair recticle is not level. I saw the leveling gizmo in the Brownells catalogue. I thought one of the experts here might have another way of leveling the crosshair. The guy at the gunstore got it sorta close but not close enough.

Thanks

Do you mean to say it is bent internally or it is not mounted level in the rings?

1 way to get it level is to mount the B-Square level on the base, then once that's level, it should be simple to level the reticle.

If the X-hairs are not oriented properly I do this.

Mount the firearm in a gun vise, which should be secured to a bench.
Remove the scope.
Using a torpedo level across the lower section of the scope rings, insure gun is level.
Place the scope back in the rings, and get cheek weld, and proper eye relief to the scope.
Then place the rear scope ring cap and set the screws in lightly.
Remove the elevation knob cover (if it has one), and place the level on top of it, oriented to be perpendicular to the receiver/barrel.
Rotate the scope slowly until you obtain level.
Then tighten the scope down with both rings tops and all screws.

Zero the scope back in, and you should be set.

If the scope still appear to be out of kelter, you can try sending the scope in to the maker.

OR.

Knowing the gun is still level, place the scope in the rings loosly held by the ring caps/screws.
Then, tape a large peice of white paper on a wall directly in front of the weapon, and using a 24" or larger level, make a dark pencil line on that paper.

Then, look throguh the scope and adjust the scope horizontal line to that line on the paper.
Tighten the scope down, and check it hasn't moved.
Rezero the weapon, and you should be all set.

Good luck!!
