How'd I do? Incidentally, the invite is open to all in the area. Just PM me first!

:D

Laura,

The problem is all you ever hear on the news is about the bad things people do with guns. Very few people know that every day in CT thousands of people do things with guns that are not bad. Even women! Lots of them! So look. Every monday night till the end of June I will be sitting in as a Range Officer At MSI Range in Manchester from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. It's another one of the things I volunteer for. It allows the public to have a safe place to shoot. The address is 281 Garden Grove St. I know you're good at finding places so I'll leave you with that. I have a very good target pistol that only makes a tiny bang and doesn't jump much at all. It's the perfect gun for a new shooter, especially a scared one. You should really drop by and give it a try. You'll have one of the better shots around teaching you! (That's me) How could you pass THAT up? Email me to let me know you're coming so I'll be sure to bring it. Sometimes I leave it home. Incidentally, other known CCGS shooters are Lynn and Henry "El Presidente". Although Lynn's hands are too weak these days but she was an avid fan a few years back. Ask her sometime. It would really do you some good to attempt to lessen your fears.

See you probably at Williams. Or maybe at the range???

Sounds great! Much more effective than an argument. Being a philosophy major my tendency in such situations is to try to convince someone through argument. But your approach is probably more effective. Good luck.

Keep us updated on this one - I always love to read stories about converts! Even if it ends up going poorly, lets us know what happened so we can draw on your experience when we try our own conversions. :)

No reply.

Ive been working on her almost 2 years now. So far I've tried to prove to her that gun owners aren't always mean and evil criminal types.

(Actually I've noticed over the years that the vast majority are quite the opposite.)

Once we were having a problem with something and I said, "If I had my gun, we could shoot it!"

She thought that was pretty funny.

(I did have my gun :p )

I'll see her again sooner or later.

(Thats me)

You need an apostrophe—"that's"—for two reasons: 1.) it belongs there, and 2.) you probably don't want to seem a complete nitwit.

I hope you succeed.

I have had some luck convincing "scared Antis" (aren't they ALL scared? :p ) to try shooting by asking them questions about what makes them afraid of guns and listening carefully and openly to the answers.

Usually, their logic is based on false conceptions about firearm operation and use (e.g., guns can just "go off", they are prone to malfunction and inexplicably "explode" in your hand when fired, and that gun owners are all JBTs, etc.).

Once I've explained to them that these are myths, they are usually much more accepting of gun ownership as a socially acceptable activity (really no more "dangerous" than owning a circular saw or kitchen knives).

I look for opportunities to have this discussion with people as much as I can.

Too late, thanks anyway... or

Yes, partial nitwit is much more desirable...

LOL

:p

There, all better!
