On the way to the range the other day...

I stopped by a local gun store, and dang if a new SA 1911 milspec didn't follow me out. :D This is my first 1911, and I must say I'm extremely happy with it. The only problem I forsee in the near future is dis-asembling it. It seems to be a bit more involved than my other auto's.

Hon, my latest student said the very same thing after she watched me clean her Kimber Stainless Pro Carry HDII the day she bought it - and after the first day at the range with it, she was getting pushy to teach her everything involved in a complete strip/disassembly detailed cleaning/inspection and reassembly!
Get a copy of Jerry Kunhausen's book on the 1911, and you'll have a wealth of information at your fingertips!
We have one also, along with other assorted 1911 variants, and it's like holding a call to arms straight from the battles of our Republic when you shoot it. Others are now made with far tighter tolerances, better sights and barrels and so on - but if it gets you and the hook sets deep it's likely you'll never get too far from it.
Hugs!

Thanks Trisha! Just opened the new shotgun news and the very book was there. Now if I can just talk the wife into letting me order it after all I just spent.

You can find a wealth of information on the web. Start with www.m1911.org (M1911) and the information on excellent information on www.m1911.org/full_striping.htm (Disassembly) For questions try www.1911forum.com (1911 Forum)
When re-assemblying your 1911 remember to push the slide straight into the frame. Nothing makes a 1911 uglier than frame scratches from inserting the slide lock the wrong way.

m. i. sanders, I live in the upstate as well, just curious as to what range you were headed to. There seem to be very few in this area, and I'm always looking for somewhere closer to home to shoot. Anyway, enjoy the new 1911. Shoot well.

Thanks Tecolate, I forgot about 1911forum.com. I never been to m1911.org though I'll have to check them out.
phred, I ususally shoot over in Gaffney. The range in Pauline's closer, but I like the Gaffney better.

Where in Gaffney is that range? Is it a private range or is it open to the public? This is the first I have heard of a range in Gaffney, thanks for the info.

Funny how 1911's do that, huh?:D I have seven of them. That's enough for now, unless of course Colt reintroduces the Delta, or I find a good used one for sale.:D
Trisha, I have one of those big-letter 1991A1's also, and while the rollmarks look funny it has always been a reliable and accurate pistol. I've extensively customized mine, and it in fact is the one in the nightstand tonight.:)
I have a SA Mil-Spec in .38 Super, and it has been very satisfactory. It is totally reliable, either with hot .38 Super loads, or with light .38 ACP loads:)

Congrats on your new SA 1911 . I like Springfield because they are well made and can be had in different configurations like Milspec up to Trps.:)
