I grew up hearing "Garand" pronounced to rhyme with "last stand". I've since read that the man actually pronounced his name to rhyme with "errand".

What is the accepted pronunciation in the shooting community?

1.) GaRAND (last stand)
2.) GARand (errand)

Same as the carBINE/carBEAN thing. Either way works.

I say GARand and CarBINE.

I've always heard most people using the 1'st pronunciation, but in fact I believe that #2 is the correct way.

Garand's son says the name is pronounced to rhyme with errand.

#2 is correct, #1 is common usage. I sometimes draw a blank stare if I use #2.

Hmmmmm... Well, if Garand rhymes with errand, perhaps the popular pronunciation of gaRAND is that it sounds so GRAND! :p  ;)

I too understand the correct way is number 2. However, I know a good many WW2 vets that use number 1. Seems to me that some drill Sgt. would have been making the corrections all along.
