Lately my knife purchases have been trending away from
anything remotely "tactical" as I'm becoming more interested
in what I think of as the American Classics (Stockmen, Trappers, etc.). However, the other day I was browsing
Pat Farey's Knives book and there on page 96, in all it's
mega-tactical glory, was an Extrema Ratio Fulcrum folder
with a tanto blade, no less. I have to admit I was smitten.
When I started buying alot of knives I told myself I'd
never spend more than a $100 on a knife as that seemed
to me to be the point where utility was unlikely to increase
with price. I should have known better.
So is the Fulcrum worth $230? Not "It's worth it if you
want it badly enough to pay that much", or "It'll it be worth
it if the SHTF and you need to cut your Honda CRV into small
strips with a folder for some unspecified reason". Objectively,
are you getting $230 worth of design, materials, function
and quality? Or are you getting $90 worth of the above and
$130 worth of hype?
