[GA]Carry/possession in Okefenokee NWR without a CCP

I'm from New York, just got my carry permit up here. Next week my college's outing club is running a trip to the Okefenokee swamp (NWR), for a solid week of camping and canoeing.

My question is:
Is it legal to carry while out in the boonies given that I will have a non-resident fishing permit? GA state law says open carry while fishing is ok, but I'm not sure about the state (or federal) regulations about carry in the NWR.

If it is not ok to carry, can I stow the handgun in a case (unloaded) in my pack? Does that count as possession but not carry?

I've checked the Georgia state site, packing.org, nra-ila.org and the swamp website, but I very easily could have missed something.

//Despite being a northerner, I have no intent to freak out at the sight of the first alligator I see. I worked along the Saint Mary's river in northern Florida for 3 summers. I do not intend to use the handgun for the duration of the trip, it's just an insurance policy.

You'd be crazy not to have a gun in the Okefenokee.

I have canoed across 12+ times. You are in the middle of nowhere the whole time, might take a day or two to get to the nearest take out point, and your protection is entirely up to you. No cell phones, no 911 in the swamp.

The alligators and snakes will pretty much leave you alone unless you mess with them. There are some bears and probably panthers as well, but they are rare and more scared of you than you are of them.

As well as looking out for the Gators, keep your eyes peeled for Meth labs, and Marijuana plots. Thats the real danger in the boondocks these days.
