I got on the short list to meet and greet the Pres next week. What should I ask him....

Sir, have you been to the border lately?

I have to be careful though cause I'll be talking to the Commander in Chief as I'll be in uniform.

Since you will be in uniform, you will definitely need to be careful.

I would think that a polite question about border security would be appropriate. I have no idea what the atmosphere will be if/when you get to ask (cameras and reporters, or behind closed doors), but do not ask any volatile questions in front of the media. While it would be extremely tempting, he would just dodge it and you'd be in a heap of trouble.

If you had the opportunity to talk in private (very rare) I personally would ask why no gun control has been repealed with the Republicans in complete control of the government. My .02 worth.

try to ask something he can answer in very few words.
heheh jokes aside, you won't have much time, nor will he, so if it takes any thought he will skim over what you say ....

the best would be something with a yes or no answer that drags an opinion out of him.

How about a quick "thanks for doing you best for us"

you seem to forget that when you are in uniform that "freedom of speech" is very limited at best. just say "glad to meet you" and that will keep you from going to any bad places soon

Echoing Steveno's thoughts...

If you decide to say anything controversial, you'd be well advised to consider if it's likely to make enough of a difference to justify ending your military career. (That's a rhetorical question.) Especially if there's a chance that you might end up as a sound bite. You are not meeting the President as a private citizen, and your right to free speach is governed by the UCMJ and the customs of the service. "Conduct unbecoming" covers a vast amount of territory, and is entirely determined by the eye of the beholder.

I don't know what your rank or time in service is, but if you screw the pooch bigtime this would most likely be your last enlistment.

Also consider that whatever you say to the President will be forgotten by him right after the echo dies, but you'll remember it for the rest of your life. Your CO and CG will remember it for quite awhile, too.

I think something like "I'd really apprecitate it if you'd do everything you can to support RKBA" would be appropriate.

Since you know it's a dud, don't throw yourself on this grenade...it will only make you look stupid.

If you're wearing a uniform and still in the service, say "Hello" or "Nice to meet you". Otherwise, you'll counting rocks above the Artic Circle for the rest of your time in the military as an E-1.

If you're already out, say what you wish. Remember to be polite, and don't expect a straight answer. Politicians of any stripe are not exactly known for giving straight answers usually. ;)

Ask for a joint picture with him. THEN POST IT RIGHT HERE!

You won't get a chance for an indepth policy / personal discussion like what are those pictures V. Fox has of Bush.

I am proud to serve under you, Mr. President.

Things to really say:

1. What about the border?
2. Why do you support the AWB and will you do anything proactive for the RKBA?
3. Why do you let Rummy continue in office?
4. What's the twins' phone numbers?

Since he is meeting with fox I'd think border questions will be most in line here. I'd ask him if he thinks what he is doing is the will of the people or of corporations. Maybe that will at least get him to think about it for a minute.

Possibly even mention the Minuteman Project. Something to the effect of, "When private citizens feel the need to try and do something about the border, don't you think that should tell you something of the will of the people. And since the people are the government, maybe elected officials should do their jobs."

Don't lie, but if its the truth, tell him that you appreciate the job he is doing. Everybody likes to hear that, and nobody hears it as often as they should. If the chance comes, a question about the border would be a good idea as well.

Looking like you may not be able to meet with him. Fox news is reporting that he is cutting this trip short and heading back to Washington in case a Schiavo bill comes up for him to sign. Of course, he could sign tonight or tomorrow and head back out. Watching for more details.

I know my limits while serving so nothing bad will be said. I am gonna take the camera in case I get a photo op. I am on my last enlistment (as of 1 Feb for 4 more years) and wont jepordise the retirement.

I think I'll say that I'm glad his name will be on my retirement orders instead of Kerry. ;)

Truthfully, I think I'll stick to Ken's comment...

thanks for doing you best for us

i got a pic with Bill Clinton, but i dont think any of you want to see it! i didn't ask him a darn thing. not a good idea to be grilling the Commander-In-Chief while you are uniform.

What a disappointment. I went out there and waited for him to finish his speach at the TCC and when the motorcade came back he got out of the limo, waived and went straight up the ladder.

Did not stop and greet the troops or anyone. :banghead:

Sorry you didn't get the opportunity to meet him, perhaps there will be another time. He's the most powerful man in the world, his responsibilties are staggering....security issues and time constraints limit his accessibilty to the public. It is not in his nature to snub people, but the people around him who manage his schedule who's job is to keep things moving.

I've had the pleasure to meet with him on six different occassions, formal and informal settings. He's the same person in both settings, professional and much like his mother. Too many people have short memories of the last administration...we can thank GWB for bringing dignity and professionalism back to the Whitehouse.

If you ever get the opportunity to meet him in the future, get a photograph or an autograph....and thank him for what he's done.

My dad got to meet "W" back when he was governor of our home state of Texas. He came down to the juvenile detention center where my dad was teaching. They spoke briefly about the state of the kids under the charge of the Texas Youth Commission, then posed for a photo. Apparently the photo was lost in one of our family's moves, my dad's pretty sick over it. If the pic ever turns up, I'll be sure to post it.

Do the photo thing and perhaps give a word of appreciation or encouragement. Getting the President involved in an issue during a public appearance isn't cool. Besides I'm sure he won't remember a thing you said anyways.
If ya have a problem with the border, it needs to be brought to the attention of your worthless@$$ed congressional delegation. Bang on the doors of their home offices during recesses and visit them in person.
Lend some support to organizations like Ranch Rescue, Chris Simcox's organization in southern AZ and the Minute Man Project. They are bringing attention to the issue whether you agree with the methods or not. Have like minded folks do the same.

The president becomes commander-in-chief when and only when congress declares a state of war exists. Has this happened? No I did not think so.

If I was in uniform and forced to shake his hand I would immediately, upon being dismissed, scrub my hand until the skin comes off.
