HELP Stuck Case

I resized a .222 case without enough lube on it and the down stroke of the press ram tore the rim off of the case. This has happened a couple of times in the past with other calibers and dies and the RCBS stuck case remover has solved the problem. In this case, I am using a Forster BR die that has the expander ball high on the stem, just below the case mouth. Unlike regular dies, I can't unscrew the stem to move the end of it away from the case head so that it can be drilled & tapped for the case extractor. The high position expander engages the case neck which is fully pressed into the die within 1/4 turn of the stem.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I soldered a brass nut on a stuck case once, pulled the case right out .

...and I should of continued...
screw a threaded rod into the soldered on nut and put a socket over the die so it catches the rim of the die and still allows the case to go into the socket and then put a washer on the socket and screw a nut down onto the washer to pull the case into the socket.

Hummm. Funny!?! You should ask at this time...I just had a stuck .30-06 case in my resizer die (Lee). I loosened the locking nut (siezing nut if you will, the little one at the top of the die), mounted the die in my bench vice, got a pin drift from my toolbox and a ballpeen hammer and drove the case out of the die. Then using a hacksaw from the same toolbox I cut the head from the case and withdrew the de-capper. Re-assembled every thing and continued cussing the One Shot spray in the red can. :cuss: :D

I will note that you should be careful not to mar the die when clamping the die in a vice. Suggest a set of soft jaw inserts.

One of the advertised features of Lee dies is that the decapper is designed to function as a stuck case remover. You don't need to remove the die from the press, in order to utilize that feature.

I understand the principle, but just in case, why don't you explain it to the others (that way I get to find out without anyone thinking I don't know how it works. Chuckle). :D

You leave the die in the press; loosen the nut that tightens the collet that holds the decapping pin; get a punch or other appropriate "shaft" and drive the decapper through the die, taking the stuck case with you.

See...I knew that...Except I use a Lee single stage press to de-cap and I didn't want to damage it so I used my vice...Same procedures.

Use canned air and spray it into the stuck case. This CO2 and very cold, stuck case often drops out. You can also the the case and die in freezer to loosent the case as well
