New uses for old products

I built my own golf clubs so, as a result, I still receive catelogs from the golf club component companies. I noticed yesterday that they were selling a tumbler for shining club heads before reshafting that looks no different than those sold by Lyman, Frankford Arsenal, etc. Of course, being golf, they were charging $300 for it. Somebody made some serious change when they figured out a simple label switch allowed them to triple the price.

What does golf clubs have to do with reloading?

And there was a time when some parts for a plain Jane Chevy also fit a Corvette & Cadillac, just cost less.

It works both ways. Those mesh bags that will isolate your brass when tumbling are free when you buy oranges, or you can pay money for the same thing from one of the reloading companies.

There are a LOT of crossover products which were originated for one use but found their way into the shooting sports. And vice versa. the original (mechanical) product I used for brass cleaning was a "Thumbler's Tumbler," and it came with instructions for tumble polishing rocks and semi-precious stones. (Is there a difference?:p )

Off hand, I can think of - - -
Brownell's Accra-Glas, Epoxy bedding compound--completely revolutionized the custom bedding of rifle stocks.

Simichrome polish

Chore Boy scrubbing pads, unravelled and used for lead removal from bores.

I feel that these, and a comment on brass polishers being used for golf club restoration are all really pretty much on-topic. ;)

Best,
Johnny

You can get ground walnut at the pet shop as bird cage litter. It is exactly the same as tumblng media, but a whole lot cheaper.

I chuckle when folks rave about "Gun Scrubber" at $8 a can. They could go to AutoZone and buy brake parts cleaner for $1.99 a can for the same stuff.
