Disassembly goof?

While disassembling and cleaning a Taurus 85 I hit a potential snag: I think I lost a part. I say think because I'm not sure if anything was there to begin with. And I can't find this part in the diagram provided in the Taurus manual. On the left side of the revolver just under the grips are two holes. One biggish, one small. The small one has a... plug in it, the large does not. The reassembled revolver appears to function correctly, the hammer drops, and so forth. I can't figure out what such a "plug" would do and, again, the diagram isn't helping. I don't want to comb the room over something that isn't there. But I don't see why the hole would be there if nothing went in it. And I don't want to have a brok'ed gun. A little help please?
