OK, stopped in a gun shop today right as they were getting ready to close looking for 3" K frame. As I'm taking quick look under the coutner with half the lights off I see this 586. It's new according to the guy behind the counter and looked it. Has a 3" barrel and short wood grips, sort of boot style I guess. I think it had night sights too. This was one awesome looking and feeling gun.

Here's the problem - sticker shock - to the tune of $899. Anyone know about this model? This shop normally has competetive pricing. I only got to handle it briefly and plan on going back for another look. Can't see spending this amount of cash on it but it has peaked my curiosity.

It is most likely the Performance Center model that came out a few years back. If it is, it should have a 3" compensated barrel and I believe it was a 7 shot. I saw one in my neck of the woods a month ago, also a 3" PC M-19. Opted for the M-19.

Found a picture of one. This one is on Gunsamerica for $1050. Sounds pretty much like what you described deereman.

For $549 I'd be all over it like a whore on crack.
