I've got a Colt Gold Cup that I bought in the late 80s. Last time I took it out to the range I noticed problems with failure to slide lock, but didn't have my reading glasses on (can't see bupkis closer than 3 feet without them) and couldn't tell why.
The 'why' was a broken slide stop. I sent it to Colt, along with the serial number of my pistol (which would have told them the manufacture date).
Their warranty is lifetime, but for firearms made after 1996.
I got a new slide stop in the mail today. Cost me a buck for the envelope, and two stamps. Ye Hah!
