When I was in High School a friend and I did a few shooting events. Each week we would shoot NRA Rimfire Bull'seye and a round or two of trap.

One day (trap day) we were finishing up in class and I told Brad that I would "...Go home and get my shotgun and meet him at the trap range." A teacher overheard this and had us sent to the Guidance office for counciling and evaluation over our gun talk. We went into the appointed office and met the new assistant guidance counciler who we had never met before.....It turns out that he shot in the lane next to me at NRA bullseye!! What a hoot. He had us play games on his computer while he "counciled" us on our gun talk. He let us hang out in his office and discuss guns and shooting until the end of the day, then we all went shooting.

Thank God not all teachers are liberal anti gun nutcases.

You must be younger than me. There were no computers when I was in high school- saw my first one when I went to college.
We used to hunt before school. Left the guns and muddy boots in the car parked in the school lot, everybody knew and nobody cared. Tardiness was a bigger problem and we sometimes slipped the principal a little payoff in the form of a clean rabbit or pheasant. We took him hunting at our favorite hunting spots about once a year. We stayed out of trouble and kept our grades up and nobody ever suggested counseling for some imagined psychosocial disorder.
(edited to add:)
Oh yeah, we always carried a good sharp pocket knife too.

Another old HS fella here.

We all carried knives to school, students and teachers had guns in vehicles. Students and teachers hunted before school and after school. NO biggie to have a guy or gal bring a new firearm as the Visual tool for a Speech presentation. Not unusal to see in the woodworking shop a gun with stock removed having the stock sanded, refinished or stained.

Ben Pearson provide Archery Supplies, we set up on the practice football field...many folks brought their own Archery Equip to use as well.

Air guns set up in the gym too...personal guns were allowed and brought in.

NEVER a gun related incident on campus. And these were tough times mind you.

Some stuff now..., Muscle Cars, Harleys, Bra Burnings...and amazing how some of the same teachers cars kept having trees "grow up" right around them where they could not move forward or backward...

...same ones that could not unlock class doors to give mid-terms. Maint guy "said" the locks broke. In actuality the locks had been swapped so naturally keys wouldn't fit...Maint guys were really cool... :)

Gremlins existed before computers it seems. ;)

My HS had JROTC where we shot .22 rifles at the 25 yard range in the school basement. :p We drilled with mil surp bolt actions.
That was only in '84-'87 and inside Detroit to boot. Times change quick.

We didn't have computers either. We had big stacks of books and paper. :D

I don't remember ever shooting before school but I did use a canvas game sack to carry my books in a few times when it was raining.
Practicaly every day my friend from down the road and I would head into the woods with our 22 rifles and shoot "something". ;)

Good times.

Same here SM- Went to HS in SW Arkansas, we didn't have computers OR calculators, just slip sticks.... And yeah, the stock turned out pretty good :D

Same thing applied to me in small town NV in the late 90s when I was in HS. After the town next to use almost had a Columbine style shooting (they had already stashed all the guns), the principle told us no guns in the gun racks. This just meant to put your rifle behind the seat of course!

A couple times in high school we'd haul our shotguns and tackle on the bus to school, then stash it in the office. After school, we'd hop the fence and shoot dove in the fields near the school. Later, of course, I'd drive and leave my stuff in the truck until after school.

Wood shop saw lots of refinished stocks on old guns, and Bishop or Fajen would supply utility grade rough shaped and inletted stocks to students for a few bucks to fit all those Mausers and Enfields brought back by our fathers and uncles.

Things have changed...
