Its a Norinco SKS and it shoots like a dream! I couldnt stand looking at it because of its hideous super gloss finish so i never shot it.I finally broke down and refinished it. This along with a complete disassembly, cleaning and reassembly led to a splendid afternoon of flawless blasting.SKS's are such great rifles.
The only negative was shooting it without a buttpad,as one of my holes is stripped out and i havent been successful at getting it fixed so a screw will bite.

Drill it out to 1/4", glue in a 1/4" dowel and re-drill it, or drive in a golf tee or chopstick with glue on it and re-drill it, or make a paste with sawdust and glue, pack it into the hole, then redrill it. The dowel method is easiest in the long run because you'll be drilling into nice unadulterated wood, instead of trying to drill out the plug, which can deflect the drill bit.

I think I was also 12 years old when I shot my first rifle.

Congratulations.

Put a toothpick into the hole and then tighten the screw.

What a shame! Such a beautiful rifle! Why did you shoot it? Was it damaged much?

Oh....

You mean you FIRED it! Gotcha.

If we're going to get upset with the blissninnys for their ignorance of guns, we shouldn't contribute to the problem.

The dowel method of fixing the hole is pretty simple and works well. Might even go up to a 3/8" dowel though depending on the size of the screw.
Another option is to just fill hole with acraglass or some kind of epoxy, and then put everything in place (including the screw) and wait for it to set. Might want to clamp the buttpad tight against the stock until it has set too. (don't use this method if you plan on taking the buttpad on and off from time to time)

So is this just the first rifle you ever bought? And you thought it was ugly so you left it in the corner for 12 years? :scrutiny:
