Know thine enemy I--From the Bradycampain.org:

AMERICANS AGAINST ASSAULT WEAPONS

We, as Americans Against Assault Weapons, must mobilize a massive campaign so that Congress will renew and strengthen the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. We want to protect our neighborhoods and law enforcement from “Weapons of War” like AK-47s and UZIs. Unless the federal law is reauthorized, it will expire and assault weapons will once again flood our streets. Under the Americans Against Assault Weapons Campaign, gun violence prevention organizations and other allied organizations will work to educate the public, media and elected officials about the danger assault weapons pose to our communities and the need to reauthorize and strengthen the federal assault weapons ban. The federal assault weapons law, passed in 1994 as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, prohibits the manufacture, sale and importation of new military-style, semi-automatic assault weapons and rapid-fire ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. But the law will expire (“sunset”) in September 2004 unless Congress and the President renew it. If the law is not reauthorized, the manufacture and sale of AK-47s, UZIs and other assault weapons along with rapid-fire ammunition magazines will become legal again. Law enforcement led the fight for the original assault weapons ban because of the great threat these weapons posed to police officers and public safety. The law has worked. In 1999, the National Institute
for Justice (NIJ) reported that trace requests for assault weapons declined 20% in the first year after the federal ban took effect.

While the law has been successful, we can do more. Assault weapons produced before the 1994 law can still be sold in most parts of the country. We need to strengthen the ban to cover
these "grandfathered" weapons and also stop gun industry efforts to circumvent the law by changing some cosmetic features or the name of a firearm. Semi-automatic assault weapons can fire up to 6 bullets a second and have devastating firepower when equipped with magazines holding 20, 30 or even 50 rounds of ammunition. One of the guns used in the Columbine High School shooting was the TEC-DC9 assault pistol, a gun designed to kill a lot of people in a short amount of time. If the National Rifle Association and other gun lobby extremists have their
way, our neighborhoods will once again be flooded with these combat weapons, threatening both our police and the public.

Please sign the pledge below and help us save and strengthen the federal assault weapons ban!

Please add the undersigned organization to the Americans Against Assault Weapons Campaign. We pledge to support reauthorization of the 1994 federal assault weapons law, with updated provisions consistent with Congress’ original intent to prevent manufacturers, importers, and sellers from flooding
America’s neighborhoods with large capacity ammunition feeding devices and military-style firearms, such as AK-47s, UZIs and TEC-9s.

 When did "assault weapons" ever "flood our streets"???

Oh, I get it! During the Revolution! Yeah!

And that's a good time for them!

While the law has been successful

Really? Uh, successful at WHAT?

Ah, but when has reality ever mattered to the Brady Bunch?

Ain't gonna happen. The Demonrats are dumb, but they do remember the election of 1994.

Not to mention, what she proposes would violate due process. But I guess so do a lot of other "laws".

That's why I drive one of those big SUVs - they're big enough to ford throught the flood of assault weapons in the streets.

Those little cars just get high-centered on those high-capacity magazines.

:D

Hmmmmm.....I must have missed that. Cops around here supported the RKBA side.Semi-automatic assault weapons can fire up to 6 bullets a second
Probably 2 guys in the country that can fire that fast. Neither of them could hit anything while doing so.

Hello All.

rapid-fire ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Can somebody tell me where I can get one of these magazines that purportedly fires faster than a normal magazine? For some reason, I can't seem to get the rate-of-fire up on my Mini-30 no matter how large the magazine is. Man, I gotta have one of those!:D

I wonder if it ever even occurs to these people that they are having to resort to outright lies to further their "message." Probably not.

TallPine, I have an SUV for September 14, 2004. I'm going to fold down the back seat and pile it high.

Hope that H und K is up and operating. I'll be waiting in the warehouse. I'll have to get in line behind other THR members. Who's bringing the cards?

Whew. What a relief and I thought we only had to worry about biochemical weapons, poisoning of our food or water supply, dirty bombs and old ladies with eyebrow tweasers on jetliners. Glad to know that if we got rid of the "assualt weapons" our society will be so much safer.

Their banking on the fact that there are enough sheople to believe them.

Assault weapons produced before the 1994 law can still be sold in most parts of the country. We need to strengthen the ban to cover these "grandfathered" weapons...

Who still doubts it's all step by step towards total confiscation? Your evil rifles were safe before. Brady Campaign wants them now. Think you're okay because your firearm is pre-ban? Not for long. :fire:

The law has worked. In 1999, the National Institute for Justice (NIJ) reported that trace requests for assault weapons declined 20% in the first year after the federal ban took effect.

They fail to mention that in that same year, firearm traces TOTAL dropped 11%. Okay, that leaves 9%. That level stayed only for that year... and that's to be expected considering the hype and coverage these guns got, I'm sure some people were turned off to the idea and moved on to something less attention getting. Not to mention they neglect to say that a massive number of additional 'grandfathered' weapons hit the stores as a result of ban anticipation. All those extra rifles... and no increase in murders with them? Hmmm...

I don't even think they care when they lie anymore. They distort one or two facts, ignore the rest, and then just lie. They want all the guns gone, and gone ASAP. Doesn't seem they care how anymore... anything that hurts gun owners is good.

One more thing... can you imagine watching as countless shooters line up with their preban rifles in hand, with their rifles that were post ban stripped of evil features to meet the AWB, firearms they've owned for years... to turn them in because all of a sudden they're a 'crime problem'? Not a sight I EVER want to see. I can't imagine the emotions I would feel if I saw that. I hope I never find out.
