MD:I want to sell my SUB 2000, but..

I have a friend that wants to buy my KELTEC SUB 2000 but he insists that it needs to have a Maryland backgound check and I say that it doesn't. After all of my searching, I can't find anything that would back up his side. I am pretty sure that I am right, or am I??? Both of us reside in Maryland.

Not according to the book that the ATF sent me that has all of the State and local laws regarding firearms. Ask a local FFL that you trust or contact your local PD.

Nice firearm BTW. I'd love to have one.

Face to face sales of non-regulated firearms are legal in MD. AFAIK....the Kel-Tec is not a regulated firearm.....you should check the MSP site for the list of regulated firearms, just to be sure.

Don't allow your friend's ignorance to become your problem.
Offer him copies of the relevent statutes, (review them yourself, as a common, prudent man would to ensure you're on solid ground), and if lawful, offer to sell him the longarm.
After that, it's simply a transaction, which he voluntarilly engages in or not.
Either way, it's not your karma.

Another way to look at it: If you were a used car dealer, and a customer offered to buy a car contingent on you running a stolen VIN check at your expense, how likely are you to toss him off the lot?

Hmmm...I've been thinking of getting one.
I promise not to hassle you with laws that don't exist

I'll echo Spot's input :D
I've walked away from deals when the other party had some imaginery issue in their head. Be sure you're right (which should be a simple phone call), then either let him have the deal the way you want it or find another more informed buyer.

Thanks. The Maryland State Police website was the first place I looked and I didn't see it listed there, I also went to the ATF site. Sometimes I just get a little nervous reading all of the legal language and feel like I somehow overlooked something. I'm not real sure that I want to sell it to this guy anymore, so I might just take it to the gunshow in Frederick this coming weekend. What's a reasonable price to ask for one of these things?

Chris,
The shows are at the Frederick County Fairgrounds....about a mile off of I-70. It's the usual fair for a MD gun show and it's divided up amongst several buildings but it's worth it if you end up finding enough deals on stuff. I usually end up restocking on .45acp, rifle ammo, .22lr ammo and cleaning supplies and that's about the extent. None of my "regular" shops take tables at the shows and the other guys are usually too expensive.

Chris,
I'll have to check with my social director to see if I can come out and play this weekend. I have a brief gig Saturday morning in DC....but otherwise MY schedule is clear. Now, as for my wife's interpretation of the schedule... :p
