Howdy,
I'm starting to get involved in an attempt to bring practical shooting to Maine, specifically the Scarborough Fish and Game Assoc'n. I've met a couple other guys who are on board and there appears to be enough of an interest in general to make this happen.
I have never shot in or even so much as attended a match before, and I've only recently moved to this state. I'm thinking the first step is to go hit a match in the northeast somewhere and try to meet some people who can help us get a club started. ASAP.
What I'm looking for is:
- any advice or contacts,
- help with a plan-of-attack,
- suggestions for a northeast club to visit,
- gear we need (other than the obvious - targets, pasters, timers, target stands)
- etc.
...anything related to getting a club going in Southern Maine. Momentum seems to be favoring IDPA, but I'd like to hear opinions. Maine doesn't have any IDPA or IPSC currently (as far as I can see), so this would be the groundbreaker.
The Fish and Game Assoc'n (a nice full-size facility that I've visited only once so far) has, maybe, one range that has berms on 3 sides that looked to be ready to go.
The idea is here, but no real motion has been made yet (I'm not even a member of the club...but that should change soon). Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks folks!
